WADA has provided potential leniency for athletes who have tested positive for the recently banned drug Meldonium. This is because WADA admits it is uncertain how long Meldonium stays in the body. Studies are being conducted on how long it takes Meldonium to leave the renal system. WADA remarked Meldonium could be detectable for several months after last use. WADA will clear athletes if the Meldonium amount is less than 1 microgram per milliliter or if the sample was taken before March 1st and between 1-15 micrograms. Over 100 athletes from 15 countries have failed drug tests for Meldonium since it became banned at the start of this year.
