Micro economic study of Indian telecom industryDipankar Mishra
The Indian mobile subscriber base is likely to sustain the rapid growth recorded in the past few years. Presence of skilled labour pool, improving telecom infrastructure, favourable demographics, rising disposable incomes of consumers, declining tariffs, increasing demand, growing attraction for mobiles with new features and greater availability of handsets at lower prices, are expected to continue driving the growth of the telecom sector, going forward.
However, the companies are likely to encounter a more challenging business environment in the near future, given the sustained fall in ARPUs, rapidly increasing competition and consequent pressure on margins and regulatory risks. Companies with good rural coverage, better operational efficiency, and superior quality of service are likely to stay ahead of competitors.
The industry will also witness the mergers of relatively smaller companies with the big players. Only big three or four players will dominate the market and direct price war may stop and Industry will agree on a standard pricing and competition will on the services and offerings.

Size Matters: A Look into Animals' LifespansScott Reed
Canines and felines, tortoise and mice: Scott Reed DVM looks at the reasons why some animals live dozens of years longer than others. Usually, it's based off their size.
However, scientists don't always understand why large dog breeds are prone to more health problems and live shorter lives than smaller breeds. Small dogs, like a miniature poodle or chihuahua, can survive up to twenty years. A big Bernese Mountain Dog or German Shepherd will often faces health complications before it hits its tenth birthday. Hopefully, science is catching up, and we may soon expect to have these beloved creatures in our lives more much longer.

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

• Vestel Group (VESTL), a Turkish maker
of televisions and household
appliances, plans to turn smartphones
into its biggest source of revenue after
introducing its first handsets last week.
• Phones will probably account for more
sales than TVs, its current largest sales
driver at about $2 billion annually,
within five to six years, Chief Executive
Officer Turan Erdogan said at the IFA
consumer electronics fair in Berlin.
• “The smartphone industry is the
fastest-growing sector for consumer
electronics,” Erdogan said. “We cannot
afford not to be there. There is a trend
that people are willing to try out new
brands, and that’s an opportunity for
us.”
• At the IFA fair, which continues until
Sept. 10, Vestel is showing the Venus X
and Venus V smartphones, which
resemble Apple Inc.’s (AAPL) iPhone on
the outside and run on Google Inc.’s
Android operating system. Vestel said it
plans to manufacture 3 million
smartphones by the end of 2017, with
a third of those to be exported to
markets including Germany, France and
the U.K.
• The company is in talks with operators
who would sell the phones in their
stores, Erdogan said, adding that retail
partners are easy to find because many
of its products are already widely sold.
InTurkey, the 5.5-inch Venus phones
will retail for $410, while the 5-inch
versions will cost $295.

Apple
iPhone 6 and Apple Watch
• Apple just wrapped up one of its
} 6
biggest events ever.
• It announced two new models of the
iPhone — the iPhone 6 and the iPhone
6 Plus. It announced a new payment
system for the iPhone called Apple Pay.
It also announced a smart watch called
the Apple Watch.
• The iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch screen,
and the iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5-inch
screen. The current iPhone 5S is a 4-
inch model. Android phones for years
have had larger screens, so Apple is
catching up here. However, the phone
looks great and is certain to be a
blockbuster.
• Apple's payment system, Apple Pay
looks pretty slick, too. If you have an
iPhone 6, you will be able to simple tap
your phone at a register, use your
fingerprint and pay for things.
• The Apple Watch is less certain. It
looks a lot like an iPod slapped on your
wrist. It can track your motion. It can
do apps, and send messages.

• Apple aims to ship 80 million units of
the iPhone 6-series products before the
end of 2014, higher than the 60 million
units of the iPhone 5 shipped in 2013,
the sources indicated.
• Barring the occurrence of component
shortages and low yield rates,
shipments of the iPhone 6s should be
able to reach 10 million units by the
end of September and total 60-70
million in the fourth quarter, the
sources estimated.
• Taiwan's makers in the iPhone supply
chain include Taiwan Semiconductor
Manufacturing Company (A8
