ARM
mBed Device Platform
 ARM announced its mbed device
 10
platform. The platform includes the
mbed OS as a free operating system
for ARM Cortex-M processor-based
devices, and is targeted toward
bringing about energy-efficient Internet
of Things devices. ARM basically wants
to make it easier for developers to help
bring such products to market.
 "Today's IoT devices largely exist in
isolation and it has been impossible to
realize a truly interconnected world
where devices are interoperable with
many different cloud services," said
Krisztian Flautner, general manager,
Internet of Things division, at ARM.
"The ARM mbed IoT Device Platform
will solve this by providing a common
communication and management
toolkit." ARM has been focusing on a
platform that will bring Internet
protocols, security and standards-based
manageability into one integrated
solution for energy and cost-constrained
devices. The goal is for
developers to create products more
quickly as they can rely on common
building blocks for IoT devices and
services. "Part of the reason that we
felt the need to do an operating system
was because there's a lot of
fragmentation in the marketplace,"
Krisztian Flautner, the firm's vice-president
of research and development,
told the BBC.
 Cortex-M chips go in a range of low-power
devices using Wi-Fi, ZigBee and
Bluetooth and other radio technologies,
said Eric Auchard of Reuters on
Wednesday, and he also noted that
ARM created mbed originally as
software for home hobbyists to
experiment with creating electronic
appliances of their own. That was then
and this is now: He said that ARM is
extending its mbed, used by developers
to build products, "into a full-scale
management platform ready to control
up to millions of devices via cloud-based
computers

Google
New Interaction Projects
 Google wants your phone to
automatically interact with all these
types of objects.
 Google is launching a new project that
aims to make interactions with
everyday things like parking meters
and vending machines with your
smartphone even easier than it already
is now.
 While fairly easy to do, the problem
with all these kind of smartphone
interactions at the moment is that you
need a different app to pay for your
parking, then another to see when the
bus is going to arrive and another still
to order a soda from the vending
machine while you wait.
 Google is hoping its new “Physical
Web” initiative will make the need to
download all these different apps
obsolete. It wants you to just be able
to walk up to an object and be able to
interact with it straight away as soon as
you open the app — with the added
ability to opt in for notifications from
your favorite things.

electronic payments—including EMV
and traditional mag-stripe cards—from
any location. It transforms
smartphones and tablets into
completely secure payment devices
that enable merchants to extend the
POS to all new environments.
Verifone’s stock performance
Unattended Payment Terminals
 VeriFone Systems, Inc. (NYSE: PAY),
announced that its UX Solutions series
of unattended payment devices has
achieved an industry-first certification
to Canada’s first and only contactless
debit payment solution,
the Interac Flash 1.5 contactless
payment specifications. MSC, a
VeriFone distribution partner that
provides solutions for the entire
unattended market in Canada and the
U.S., has selected devices within the
UX series to support its next-generation
EMV capable, PCI compliant
unattended payments solution which
will include support for Interac Flash
transactions.
Loyalty Solution
 VeriFone Systems, Inc. (NYSE: PAY),
and Elavon, a wholly owned subsidiary
of U.S. Bancorp (NYSE: USB) and
leading global payments provider,
announced that Elavon’s new Fanfare
loyalty solution for small to mid-sized
customers is now available on
VeriFone’s countertop payment
terminals and PIN pads—the VX 520
and VX 820.
MAPCO
Partnered with Gilbarco Veeder-Root
 MAPCO recently partnered with
Gilbarco Veeder-Root to install the
Impulse upselling platform across 220
sites by the end of 2014. MAPCO,
which operates 375 stores in the
southeast, is using the Impulse
platform to drive dynamic digital
content at both the point of sale and
through their mobile application.
 "We saw Impulse increase in-store
sales by over 2.5%, which was a key
factor in our decision to implement
Gilbarco's upselling platform," said
Austin Martin, vice president of sales
and merchandising, MAPCO. "We are
also excited about Impulse's ability to
interact with consumers at multiple
touch points, which allows us to
engage our consumers by sending
customized offers directly to their
mobile phone."
 Gilbarco has added significant
functionality to the Impulse on-the-counter
upselling screen over the past
year. Impulse Everywhere is a cloud-

based engine that helps retailers
manage their complete customer
communications. Gilbarco has also
added location-based services, enabling
retailers to geo-target consumers
through proximity marketing
technology. This gives a retailer the
capability to segment their customers
and automatically send a targeted
promotion based on location.
Turkcell
Cooperation with Fortumo
 Mobile-payments provider Fortumo has
teamed with Turkcell on an in-app
purchasing solution that allows Android
developers to earn more money with
Fortumo’s one-click direct payment
solution.
 “Discovery of apps has became a huge
problem for Android developers — it is
very hard to stand out among millions
apps in Google Play," said Gerri Kodres,
SVP of business development and
carrier relations at Fortumo.
“Alternative app stores such as Turkcell
AppMarket are becoming viable option
for many developers to reach new
users, especially in emerging markets.
Together with ... Turkcell, we’ll enable
developers to increase in-app
purchases income using direct carrier
billing."
 Turkcell launched its AppMarket app
store in late 2008 to give content
support for all Java and Android mobile
handsets and tablets. AppMarket’s goal
is to encourage both Turkish and global
developers to develop mobile
applications, support local developers,
enable them to reach more smartphone
users in Turkey and increase the
market share of mobile handset and
tablet manufacturers and mobile
brands.
Turkcell’s stock performance
Migros
Offered to buy by Anadolu Group
 Turkish conglomerate Anadolu Group
has offered to buy a 40.25 percent
stake in supermarket chain Migros from
BC Partners, Migros said in a statement
to the Istanbul stock exchange late on
Thursday.
 Anadolu offered 26 lira per share
($11.475), a premium of 36 percent to
Thursday's closing price of Migros,
which has a market capitalization of 3.4
billion lira.
Retail and Payment Market
Multichannel Campaign Management
Market
 The global multichannel campaign
management market will reach $2.70
billion by 2019, growing at a CAGR of
19.0% during the forecast period
(2014–2019). As the multichannel
campaign management (MCM)
continues to add new social and digital
channels, top players in this MCM
market find new methods and
strategies for enhanced customer
engagement techniques. The growing
age of digital marketing has led to
crucial reforms in the traditional
marketing practices. Companies have
found it necessary to run huge
promotional campaigns to control the
mindshare of the customers.
