• Apple will be opening a research and
development center in Cambridge,
England within the "next few weeks,"
according to a regional business
publication, Business Weekly. The
offices are reportedly located at 90 Hills
Road, and in the same city as offices

Broadcom, Sony, Microsoft, and
Qualcomm. It's thought that Apple's
presence could start with about 20
workers and grow to as much as 40
within the next year.
IBM
Supercomputer with Nvidia
• IBM and NVIDIA just announced they
were building the world’s fastest
supercomputers. There is an ongoing
arms war for which country can field
the most powerful
supercomputers. There is, well,
everything on the line here because
these things are used for things like
modeling catastrophic weather events
and driving national defense. IBM,
NVIDIA, and the US all have something
not only critical to each other’s fortunes
but critical to the nation to prove here
and they announced how all three
would be addressing this opportunity.
Xiaomi
Investment in Video Content
• Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi
Technology Co reached an agreement
with US-listed Chinese video streaming
firm Youku Tudou Inc to invest in the
distribution and production of online
video content, a move analysts said will
be a win-win solution for the two
companies.
Foxconn
Partnership with Telpa

plans to team up with Apple's main
assembler Foxxconn to make mobile
phones and tablets in Turkey, Telpa
Chief Executive Sebahattin Yaman said.
• "They plan to invest in making tablets
and mobile phones in Turkey. Turkey is
a hub for them. They are also
considering moving production of other
goods to Turkey," Yaman said.
• Foxconn - which already assembles
Telpa phones outside Turkey - is in
talks with the Turkish government
regarding incentives for smart phone
production before making its final
decision, Telpa General Manager
Muzaffer Golcu said.
ICT Market
IoT Market
• Analyst firm IDC forecasts that the IoT
market will grow to $8.9 trillion by
2020 with anywhere between 30 to 50
billion connected autonomous things,
making the potential growth
opportunities staggering as sensors,
technology and networking come
together to enable buildings,
infrastructure and other resources to
swap information. Over the next
decade, as much as $3 trillion in global
smart technology opportunities will
exist for cities.
Tablet Shipments
• There will be 74.5 million tablets
shipped globally in the fourth quarter of
2014, increasing on quarter by 17.6%
but decreasing on year by 10.1%, and
of which 20 million units will be iPads,
27.8 million units of non-iPad models
launched by major vendors and 26.7
million units of white-box models,
according to Digitimes Research.

Acer 1.7% and Hewlett-Packard
1.3%, Digitimes Research indicated.
• Taiwan-based ODMs/OEMs will ship
30.64 million tablets in the quarter,
growing on quarter by 32.5% but
slipping on year by 13.8%. Foxconn

rise even further to 88 million units. In
2014, the market will deploy only about
60,000 set-top high-end gateway STBs
with Ultra HD and HEVC capabilities
within high-end gateway set-top boxes.
After the initial push of high-end Ultra
HD capable boxes in multi-tuner
gateway boxes, a second round of HD
HEVC boxes will roll out in areas with
demand for HD services where the last-
mile network build out is not otherwise
sufficient to deploy HD MPEG-4
services, according to ABI Research.
