Use of Volunteers, Parents and Student Placements Policy
We actively encourage the participation of parents, carers, students and other volunteers
in our Nursery. They will be made aware of the Nursery's aims, policies and procedures
prior to working with the children. In particular the confidentiality policy, health and
safety policy and fire evacuation procedures will be made clear.
All regular volunteers will be required to complete the disclosure process. Students or
volunteers who are spending more than 1day per week for a period in excess of 6 weeks,
or more than 2 full weeks in the Nursery, will be expected to undergo the PVG scheme.
• Nursery staff will be responsible for the children's safety and well-being and at no
time will children be left on their own with parents, volunteers or students.
• Only members of nursery staff will accompany children to the toilet at any time.
• At no time will parents, volunteers or students be included in the staff: child ratio
during a nursery session, but they will be used as part of the staff:child ratio when
the nursery participates in school trips but will never be left unattended with a
group and will be part of a larger group lead by nursery staff.
The nursery staff will at all times retain responsibility for the running of the session. All
volunteers will be encouraged to participate fully in the Nursery activities.
Parents/Volunteers
Parents/volunteers are welcome to contribute to the daily routine of the nursery. After
discussion with staff this could take the form of:
