Dear Parents/Guardians
As part of our positive behaviour policy within the school, we are currently trialling a new initiative
for a four-week period. The initiative has been developed to reinforce the current merit reward
system. The new system is designed to support pupils with their learning and is in the form of a blue
slip.
The purpose of the trial is to help promote a positive approach to learning and extra support for
pupils. The blue slips are not intended to replace any current system which the individual teacher
has in place; therefore, it is at the discretion of the teacher to issue the slip.
The slip is divided into two categories: 1) being prepared to learn and 2) developing a positive
attitude towards learning. The section ābeing prepared to learnā monitors areas such as having basic
equipment (pens, pencils, P.E. kit and tubs/money for HFT), homework being handed in on time and
being to lessons on time. The ādeveloping a positive attitudeā section monitors areas such as not fully
contributing to lessons, not being fully engaged and focused, disrupting other learners and not
listening to instructions. The outcome of the trial is to offer extra support for pupils who are having
difficulty in these areas.
In practice, no action will be taken until a pupil is issued with three blue slips. If a pupil has received
three or more blue slips, it will then initiate a meeting with Mrs Rose at break on Monday morning
the following week. It is hoped that this will reduce the amount of learning time lost during lessons
and therefore promote a positive learning environment.
Kind regards
Pam Rose
