The Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle manufactured by General Motors. It began production in 2010 and is sold in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. The Volt has a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery that allows for an all-electric range of 35-50 miles. After the battery is depleted, a small gasoline engine generates electricity to extend the total range to over 300 miles. The Volt was designed to be an electric vehicle first to maximize efficiency and minimize emissions.
