VOLLEYBALL
History:
Volleyball was created by William G. Morgan in 1895.
Morgan had established, developed and directed a hard
program of exercises and sport classes for male adults
and realized that he needed a new competition game to
vary his program. At that moment, there was only
basketball and, because of that, he used on his own
experiences to create this new game. First it was known
by the name of "Mintonette".
Basic Rules:
1. You win a point when the opposite team doesn't control the ball well or
makes an offence.
2. Players in a team must not allow the ball to touch the floor inside their own
court. If not, it will be a point for the opposite team.
3. If the ball lands out of the court, it will be considered an offence by the
team that touches the ball and the point will be for the opposite team.
4. It is considered that the ball is out when it touches the roof, the public or
the referees; also it will be considered out of the court when the ball
touches the net or the posts.
5. There is a point for the opposite team if a team makes three touches
without passing the ball to the opposite court or if a player touches the
ball twice without passing it.
6. When a team is going to serve and the players from that team are in the
wrong position, it is considered a rotation offence.
7. If a player holds the ball it is considered doubles.
8. When you are going to serve, no player cannot touch the net.
9. Players cannot enter into the opposite team court.
10. Volleyball teams can contain a maximum of 12 players.
11. If you serve the ball and it is not direct to the opposite team, it will be an
offence.
12. When a team serves, the opposite team cannot block this serve.
Main touches:
1. Underarm pass, or bump: Where the ball touches the inside
part of the joined forearms or platform, at waist line.
2. Overhead pass or finger touch: Where it is handled with the
fingertips, like a set, above the head.
3. Smash: When you want to finish your play. With this
technique you can make a point.
4. Service: With this technique you must hit the ball
with your hand and throw it to the opposite court or
pass it to any person in your team.
Real game:
Two teams of six players are separated by a
net. Each team tries to score points by
grounding a ball on the other team's court
under organized rules.
A player from the serving team throws the
ball into the air and hits the ball. It must
pass over the net and it will land into the
opposing team's court.
The opposing team must use a combination of no more than three touches to
return the ball to the opponent's side of the net.
Conclusion:
Volleyball is a sport in which you must maintain the ball without it touching your
court and you must try to hit it into the opposite team’s court. There are many
rules you have to respect and if not you will be punished. It’s important to warm up
very well because if not you may get an injury.
