YMCA Physical Education
director, created a new
game called Mintonette.
•Team sports that can be played either indoors or
outdoors.
•Played by two opposing teams of six players each
with the dimension of 18m x 9m
•Objective: landing the volleyball into opponent’s
court to gain a point or a score.
•Set of rules should be followed for you to progress
in the game and to win it.
•In order to win the game, a team should
reach 25 points with a minimum lead of
2 points in 3 to 5 sets if in case extra sets
are needed until 5 sets.
•Both teams reach 24 points? The play is
continued until two-point lead is
achieved.
HEALTH AND FITNESS BENEFITS
• Volleyball is an aerobic team activity. Players can real both health
benefits and team building benefits from playing.
• Playing volleyball brings good eye and hand coordination.

EQUIPMENT
BALL
• Made of leather or
synthetic leather, have a
circumference of 65–67
cm, a weight of 260–280
g and an inside pressure
of 0.30– 0.325 kg/cm2.
NET
One-meter wide net placed
so that the top of the net is
2.43 meters for men's
competition, and 2.24
meters for women's
competition.
COURT
• Center line – divides the playing court into 2
equal courts of 9 x 9 m each
• Attack line – front partition of each court, 3
m from the center line; front zone
• Back zone – second partition of the playing
court; 6 m between front zone end line and
the service line
• Service zone – 9-meter wide behind each end
line

SERVE
• Act of putting the ball
in play by hitting the
ball in an underhand or
overhand technique
toward the opponent’s
courtside.
TYPES OF SERVICE
•OVERHAND SERVE - Act of serving the ball
by tossing it overhead and striking it above the
head level.
•UNDERHAND SERVE - Act of serving the
ball by hitting it below the waist level instead of
tossing it up and striking over the head level.
PASS
• An attempt to properly handle the opponent’s
service or attack; reception.
• The main goal of passing is to prevent the ball
from touching the court, and also making it reach
the position where the setter is standing quickly
and precisely
DIG
•Digging is the ability to prevent the
ball from touching one's court after
a spike or attack, particularly a ball
that is nearly touching the ground.
BLOCK
• Process of preventing the opponent’s attempt to strike
or attack.
• Single (or solo), double, or triple block.
• The block position influences the positions where other
defenders place themselves while opponent hitters are
spiking
SET
•Act of putting the ball into the
position that the attacker can
strike the ball hard towards the
opponent’s court.
ATTACK
•Act of striking the ball hard
overhead just above the net;
common way of getting a score
in this game.
RULES OF THE
GAME
GAME PLAY
• Each team consists of six players. To get play started, a team is
chosen to serve by coin toss.
• A player from the serving team throws the ball into the air and
attempts to hit the ball so it passes over the net on a course such that
it will land in the opposing team's court (the serve).
• The opposing team must use a combination of no more than three
contacts with the volleyball to return the ball to the opponent's side
of the net.
SCORING
•When the ball contacts the floor within the
court boundaries or an error is made, the
team that did not make the error is awarded
a point, whether they served the ball or not.
•If the ball hits the line, the ball is counted as
in.
LIBERO
•The libero is a player specialized in
defensive skills: the libero must wear a
contrasting jersey color from his or her
teammates and cannot block or attack the
ball when it is entirely above net height.
OFFICIALS
SCORERS
•The official scorer keeps track of the score
throughout the volleyball game. Before the
game begins the scorer notes the starting
lineup of each team and notifies the referees
if the lineup wasn't received on time.
LINE JUDGE
•At least two, and as many as four, line
judges monitor each game. The line
judges stand at the corners of the court
watching the lines to indicate whether a
ball in play falls in or out of the court.
FIRST REFEREE
• The first referee stands on the referee stand and
controls the play of the entire game. Whatever issues
arise during the game, the first referee determines the
call and the has the final say. After making a call, no
player or other referee can argue the call, although a
formal protest can be placed with the scorer.
SECOND REFEREE
• The second referee works to assist the first referee
throughout the game. If for some reason the first
referee can't finish her duties, the second referee
may take the place of the first referee.
• The second referee is in charge of all substitutions,
timeouts and the actions of the scorer's table.

  • 18. DIG •Digging is the ability to prevent the ball from touching one's court after a spike or attack, particularly a ball that is nearly touching the ground.
  • 19. BLOCK • Process of preventing the opponent’s attempt to strike or attack. • Single (or solo), double, or triple block. • The block position influences the positions where other defenders place themselves while opponent hitters are spiking
  • 20. SET •Act of putting the ball into the position that the attacker can strike the ball hard towards the opponent’s court.
  • 21. ATTACK •Act of striking the ball hard overhead just above the net; common way of getting a score in this game.
  • 23. GAME PLAY • Each team consists of six players. To get play started, a team is chosen to serve by coin toss. • A player from the serving team throws the ball into the air and attempts to hit the ball so it passes over the net on a course such that it will land in the opposing team's court (the serve). • The opposing team must use a combination of no more than three contacts with the volleyball to return the ball to the opponent's side of the net.
  • 24. SCORING •When the ball contacts the floor within the court boundaries or an error is made, the team that did not make the error is awarded a point, whether they served the ball or not. •If the ball hits the line, the ball is counted as in.
  • 25. LIBERO •The libero is a player specialized in defensive skills: the libero must wear a contrasting jersey color from his or her teammates and cannot block or attack the ball when it is entirely above net height.
  • 27. SCORERS •The official scorer keeps track of the score throughout the volleyball game. Before the game begins the scorer notes the starting lineup of each team and notifies the referees if the lineup wasn't received on time.
  • 28. LINE JUDGE •At least two, and as many as four, line judges monitor each game. The line judges stand at the corners of the court watching the lines to indicate whether a ball in play falls in or out of the court.
  • 29. FIRST REFEREE • The first referee stands on the referee stand and controls the play of the entire game. Whatever issues arise during the game, the first referee determines the call and the has the final say. After making a call, no player or other referee can argue the call, although a formal protest can be placed with the scorer.
  • 30. SECOND REFEREE • The second referee works to assist the first referee throughout the game. If for some reason the first referee can't finish her duties, the second referee may take the place of the first referee. • The second referee is in charge of all substitutions, timeouts and the actions of the scorer's table.
