2. Shanti’s Leadership
Leader’s must activate people’s emotions and this requires a strong sense of self and
an authentic vision.
Employees spend half of their lives at work. They want to be in an environment
where they feel valued, appreciated, like they belong and are making a valuable
contribution. These are basic human needs.
I always noticed as an indirect colleague that how Shanthi’s team was always happy
and cheerful on the floor.
So, let me tell you that I have known Shanthi since 2008 when I was working with
Shanthi’s team to launch Idea GSM Service in Mumbai city.
And, when I connected with her on LinkedIn few days back it really made me think
to start leadership series and mention these great stalwarts of the corporate clan. She’s the
first leader that I thought of writing about.
Below is brief list of why her team loved her so much ALWAYS:
• A team member who was Shanthi’s direct report shared with me in 2008 that Shanthi is
a huge supporter of “Work From Home”. Today during Covid19 everyone is WFH.
• Another one told me that she never micro-manages anyone in the team rather she helps
you to accomplish the tasks that are aligned to the big goal.
• Never asked / suggested anyone to plan travel, that’s how she trusted everyone in the
team.
• There were some team members who loved her dressing sense, perfumes, jokes, SMILE
and a SUNNY FACE as she’s very charismatic in every sense.
• And last but not the least, her open door policy. ANYBODY can walk up to her and
share ANYTHING.
To sum up, no matter even if an organisation implements Artificial Intelligence to deal
with business problems, never forget that a LEADER is required to drive the team.
