2. HIGH COMPUTING PERFORMANCE
AND SECURITY FROM GPU COMPUTING
WITH STORAGE VIRTUALIZATION
GPU computing and virtualization do not necessarily have to work exclusively from
each other. With a new CUDA workstation in combination with Nimble storage
solutions, ttec is offering a turnkey, high-performance solution based on NVIDIA GRID
architecture. It is certified for both the Citrix XenServer and VMware vSphere.
Teams of developers at remote locations colla-
borating on highly complex projects are not un-
common in fields such as CAE, CAM or CAD. This is
standard working practice in these environments.
Collaboration across remote locations poses an
obvious problem:
Multiple, decentralized databases mean that it is
difficult to keep data up-to-date and involve the
time-consuming transfer of large data volumes
which is also restricted by additional bandwidth
limitations. Not to mention the risk to security
caused by local data storage for example at exter-
nal service providers such as engineering offices.
Help is at hand with a centralized data storage op-
tion installed in the data centre. Yet this type of
solution is accompanied with specific hardware
and software requirements. Two key require-
ments are high-performance hardware such as a
GPU workstation and virtualization in the server
storage area. Central data storage offers signifi-
cantly more security and protection against data
loss or theft.

3. ACCELERATED GRAPHICS DELIVER MAJOR
PERFORMANCE BOOST
Complex calculations, data analyses, multiplex simula-
tions or graphics and video processing rely on extremely
highcomputingperformance.GPUcomputingistheans-
wer. ttec‘s response is its new CUDA 4240 workstation,
one GPU compute node in two height units. Its hardware
configuration: up to two Intel Xeon Processors from E5
2600v3 series (Haswell EP) and up to 36 CPU cores, up to
1,024 GB main memory (LRDIMM) and a maximum of six
NVIDIA Tesla GPUs. The GPU computing models NVIDIA
Tesla K8, K10, K20, K20X, K40M and K80 (Kepler) can be
used or as a virtualized solution, up to four NVIDIA GRID
K1 and K2 (Kepler) and M60.

NVIDIA GRID technology featuring a hardware virtuali-
zation of the graphic processor. In the past, the only
serious contender for the virtualization hypervisor was
the Citrix XenServer as it delivered the best support
for NVIDIA technologies and cards. There is now more
choice available and this is expected to leverage virtuali-
zation in GPU computing. And there are no guesses why:
Virtualization in enterprises and organizations usually
means VMware yet in terms of GPU computing, this has
until now posed a problem. A new era is now heralded
with the new VMware vSphere support for the NVIDIA
GRID vGPU technology.
ttec has designed its new GPU workstations that sup-
port both Citrix XenServer 6.5 as well as VMware vSphere
6.0. And this means companies who use VMware solu-
tions for virtualization will have fast, easy and efficient
deployment of GPU computing.
