• Research for the Benefit of SME’s
• Research for SME associations
Support to development of technological solutions of challenges common
for a great number of SMEs (e.g. adjustments to norms/standards, market
challenges etc.)
- IPR to be owned by the SME associations
- Project budget 1.5 – 4 M€
- EU grant up to 75 %
- Duration 2 – 3 years
- Participants 5 – 20 (at least 3 SME associations from three countries + at
least 2 RTD performers + at least 2 SMEs)


Regions of knowledge - Policy context

• The "Regions of Knowledge" initiative responds to a
need to increase the overall capacity of regional
players to foster science and technology-based
economic development, by better integrating
research to their regional innovation strategies
• Within the framework of the Lisbon and EU2020
strategies for a performing knowledge-based
economy
• To help reach the Barcelona objectives

Regions of knowledge
2011 Call for proposals

One call, REGIONS-2011, targeting the transnational cooperation of
regional research driven clusters
- for a total of 18,66 M €

Participants
Consortia of at least 3 regional research-driven clusters from 3
different Member States or Associated countries
• Possible representation by one member - under conditions
• Compulsory description of the full clusters and their triple helix
structure
Coordinator : either a regional authority or a fully fledged RDC (with legal
entity)


Funding scheme overview

Funding scheme: CSA –CA (coordinating action)
Duration: up to 36 months
– the JAP being finalized during the first half of the
project
Community contribution: up to 3 M €
Financing rate: up to 100 % of eligible costs

WP 2011 thematic priorities

• Boosting the competitiveness of transport related economy
• Support innovative capacity of European transport related
industries and business
• Promote sustainable transport in an integrated technology-led
and user friendly way
• Examples: greening of transport, development of intermodal
regional transport, urban mobility, safety or security

We favour innovative and cross-disciplinary approaches !


Why should SME’s participate in FP 7
• Consider FP7 funding as additional money
• Commercial risks are reduced
• Increased turnover and profitability
• Enhanced productivity and market share
• International cooperation – establishing new contacts and partnerships
(research business with foreign institutions and firms) – future economical
benefits
• Access to new markets
• Contribution to a marketable technology-benefiting from it, exploitation
of the results (more patents)
• Long term perspectives –innovative approach of the SMEs participating in
FPs will be stronger
• Successful FP participation can lead to stronger competitiveness
