subjects. Ten subjects of each gender were randomly assigned to see one of five videos that varied in
violent content. The main dependent variable in the first experiment was the number of aggressive
thoughts listed by the subject immediately after watching the video. The second dependent variable
was the subject's violence rating of the video they viewed. Immediately after viewing the video,
each subject filled out a set of 5–point rating scales indicating the degree to which the video had
been enjoyable, amusing, realistic, and violent. They found that, aggressive thoughts and violence
ratings both increased with the level of violence in the video which supported the hypothesis.
Experiment 2 allowed a test of the replicability of the findings of Experiment 1 by including
ratings of videotape violence and listing of thoughts following observation of the tapes. This time,
however, each subject was tested individually in a small cubicle. The procedure was very similar
except just prior to observing a videotape, the subject was given the adjective checklist, and

Many would say that violence in the media is the key problem in society today. However, an
analysis of violence in the media reveals that violence does create a more aggressive world, but that
is not the only plausible explanation. When violence is watched or participated in, the viewer's
heart rate and blood pressure increase and they have difficulty creating empathy for the others; they
are more apt to act out that anger. Others would argue that statistically violence has decreased in the
world, and that the violent behavior that is demonstrated by a few does not represent the whole of
society. It is with this reason that many say that there should be stricter ratings on video games and
movies, and parents should be better educated on ways to "teach" their children ways to deal with

speech (Freedom of Expression in the Arts, 2002). Because of the validation of this argument, the
Congress failed to enact a law that would effectively control the violence in the media (Kevin,
19994). However, "obscenity" is recognized by the Congress as the only legitimate cause for an
exception to the First Amendment. Even though there is no legal definition for obscenity, it is the
reason for banning sexual contents in the media. I believe that now it is time to define a legal
terminology for obscenity, and depictions of extreme violence should be included under this
definition. Nowadays, violence in the media is unavoidable regardless of one's preferences and is
available to all at anytime and anywhere. Violence is in advertisement, movies and in TV shows and
one cannot avoid it. Therefore, banning the violence in the media by enforcing a security code for

Violence in the media, like sexual representation in the media, is so common that they are often
seen on a daily basis. As time and technology has progressed, violence has become a more
prominent feature to certain types of media and is becoming less uncensored. Violence can now
be seen across a wide range of movies, television shows, newspapers, magazines, video games, and
even on Facebook. Mediums in which I see violent media the most is through movies, television
shows, and Facebook. Each of these forms, I can easily say expose me to some type of violence

I witness violence on Facebook several times a day. Just this morning, a video came across my
newsfeed about two first grade girls fighting on the school bus with each other. These young girls
were actually punching and kicking each other with the intent to cause bodily harm. I can also
vividly remember watching a video on Facebook of a young mother being beaten up by two other
girls while her toddler aged child stood on the side crying and screaming for her mother being
attacked. Not only are these violent fighting videos shared thousands, sometimes–even millions of
times, on Facebook, but there are also websites like World Star Hip Hop that feature and praise
violent videos like these. People often share these videos to express their upset for such horrific
actions or for personal entertainment purposes, but these videos could also negatively impact
society. Young adults and preteens are accessing social media platforms like Facebook at younger
ages than ever before. With younger children having access to these violent videos, it may
provoke young adults and preteens to think it is acceptable or funny to ac in this manner because
they do not see the people in the video being punished for their actions. If anything, young adults or
preteens can see these violent actions as being rewarded for being shared across many different
forms of social media and gaining recognition even if it is in a negative
