Vincent Van Gogh was a post-impressionist Dutch painter born in 1853 who struggled financially and with mental illness throughout his life. He was unrecognized during his time but is now considered one of the most famous and influential artists of all time. Some of his most notable paintings include The Potato Eaters and Starry Night. Van Gogh supported himself through various jobs and was encouraged in his painting by his brother Theo, an art dealer. He lived a troubled life and took his own life in 1890 at the age of 37, after which his fame grew tremendously in the years following his death.
