1) Vietnam has experienced rapid growth in electricity demand but faces power shortages due to reliance on state-owned utilities for generation and distribution.
2) The government aims to diversify energy sources and increase private sector investment in power projects including IPPs, BOT, and joint ventures.
3) Opportunities exist for private companies to invest in hydropower, coal, gas, and renewable energy generation projects to help meet Vietnam's projected electricity demand and alleviate power shortages.

Hydropower Potential in Myanmar
Electricity generation in South Africa is changing, but whether the electricity grid will be able to adapt to these changes is uncertain. This paper presents an alternative frame for the current electricity challenges by focusing on the electricity grid. Using the International Futures forecasting model, the African Futures Project has built three scenarios to 2050 to inform policymakers of the long-term implications of grid decisions. With coordinated planning, improved operational strategies and coherent policies, renewable energy can contribute significantly to the energy mix by 2050, help increase economic growth and benefit all South Africans. These interventions, however, will only be successful if there is a clear plan for the structure of the electricity sector.

An Overview of the Electricity Industry in MyanmarVikas Sharma
This paper attempts to provide a comprehensive current-state assessment of Myanmar’s electricity sector, and goes on to offer some policy recommendations to tackle the key issues at hand.
As Myanmar embarks upon reversing the damage and realizing its potential, availability of electricity is crucial in all spheres – economic, health-related and educational. However, nowhere is the immensity of the task at hand more apparent than in the electricity sector. Less than 30% of households are connected to the electric-grid. Per capita consumption of power is lowest in ASEAN. There is over-reliance on hydropower and erratic demand-side management, especially in summer months. Current supply is almost 30% below demand, manifested in sweeping load-shedding. Planning is centralized, haphazard and seemingly untouched by market dynamics. Power plants have numerous breakdowns and abysmal efficiency. Transmission and distribution networks are antiquated and omit large expanses. Highly-subsidized electricity tariffs and resulting fiscal deficits have crippled public investment in infrastructure. Skepticism over political stability, heavy-handed government terms, and deficient financing ecosystem discourage private entrants.

China Clean Energy Industry Report, 2009 2010ResearchInChina
Clean energy refers to the energy that doesn’t discharge pollutants, mainly including nuclear energy, hydropower, wind power, solar power, bio-energy (biogas), and tidal energy. At present, China's energy consumption structure is still dominated by thermal power, and the structure won’t change in the near future. But in the long run, clean energy will account for an increasingly larger proportion in electricity generating capacity. The figure below shows that the proportion of nuclear power, hydropower and other power sources increased from 19.7% in 2007 to 23.0% in March 2010, up 3.3 percentage points. As China launches more preferential policies for nuclear power, wind power and solar energy industry, the proportion of clean energy power generation will increase substantially.

Energy Management through Bio-gas Based Electricity Generation System during ...TELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
The scarcity of energy especially electrical energy is an acute problem and hinders the modern
economic development of a country. Most of the time only a small percentage of peoples have access to
use continuous electricity supply. But in this modern era, all types of arena like economies, households
and companies have extensive demand for electricity which is due to industrializat ion, extensive
urbanization, population growth, rising standard of living and modernization of the agricultural sector of a
country. Electricity generation from bio-gas plant through cowdungs of a dairy firm can mitigate the
electricity demand to some extends in rural areas, where biogas plant will act act as a backup supply
especially during load shedding. This research paper proposed an electricity generation system from bio -
gas, which can work as a secondary source of the electricity for all electrical appliances of a particular area
in a cost effective manner.
