2.
A collection of orchestras, choirs and bands
that play some of the best and most
memorable video game music ever produced
Aims to develop the culture and art of
videogames
3.
Launched on July 6th, 2005 as the first ever
video game music concert to perform live
Quickly move throughout the
world, performing in many different countries
4.
Combines live audio and exclusive visual
experiences to impart a strong impact in
audiences
Includes live action performances and
interactive game playing segments to further
engage audience.
Pre-concert festival including meet and
greets with famous composers and
designers, costume events and even
tournaments
5.
Quite a bit actually, with music ranging from
Nintendo classics to the latest blockbusters
Every concert is a different line up, some
nights may get the stunning orchestral pieces
from the Halo franchise, while others get the
fast and furious music common to the Sonic
series
6.
Recently finished a Kickstarter venture to
fund production of the latest VGL
album, exceeding their funding goal of
$250000
Partnered with Twitch tv to stream a free live
concert during San Diego ComicCon
Facebook, Youtube and Twitter outlets for
information and hype building
7.
Mainly consists of video game players
Many older video games have great
soundtracks, but audio compression destroys
their quality unlike other types of music
The community wants their type of music to
be better recognized, so they support the
idea of a band/concert dedicated to video
game music to represent their culture
8.
As stated earlier, gamers
Since this concert is all about celebrating
games, many gamers and even some nongamers are able to enjoy the festivities
Thanks to the audio and visual experience
unique to video games, it provides many
things other bands cannot, allowing it to
differentiate itself
9.
VGL doesn’t share a whole lot, beyond some
live streamed concerts and events.
They post some samples of their concerts on
the Youtube Channel
10.
VGL doesn’t engage much beyond standard
notifications of events and products
This could be improved by doing some more
smaller scale events that they could post
online, or streaming small concerts to
advertise, etc
11.
Most of the advertising work happens at the
events
Pre-show is a festival, involving many people
and events that highlight video game
culture, including tournaments, meet and
greets, costume and art displays, and of
course music
Doesn’t follow through very well online
12.
The flow of information and updates is very
consistant
The flow of actual music or samples… not so
much
Keep in mind, the few actual samples they
release are incredible, such as small exclusive
music pieces from famous composers, or
sneak peaks at newer ideas
13.
Considering I love video games, and many of
the sound tracks have stuck through with
me, I find the idea extremely interesting
Sadly, on the whole it feels a bit limited in its
engagement, considering the media they
represent aims for high interactivity
14.
Major issue is engagement with potential
fans
Much of it died off over time
While the music may be timeless, the events are
not
Could be helpful to aim at providing more
online presence through interactive fan
streams similar to some of concert events,
and re-instating their fan forums with better
moderation
