Ventilation System
Content:
What is ventilation?
What are types of ventilation system?
What are components of ventilation system?
Ventilation:
Asystem that delivers fresh air throughout the
poultry house, and in doing so, removes excess
heat, moisture, and undesirable gases that may
be present.
Ventilation System
Types of Ventilation System:
There are two types of ventilation
• Natural Ventilation
• Mechanical Ventilation
Types of Mechanical Ventilation System:
Negative pressure system
Positive pressure system
Combined or Dual system
Negative Pressure System
This system
 Is commonly used in poultry houses
 Has basic two main components i.e. fans & inlets
 Fans are arranged to expel air from poultry house
 Hence they create partial vacuum inside the house
 The partial vacuum or pressure difference pulls
fresh air through the inlets into the house.
Negative Pressure System
Types of Negative Pressure System:
We divide the negative pressure system in different
weathers as:
1. Cold Weather Ventilation (Minimum Ventilation)
2. Hot Weather Ventilation (Tunnel Ventilation)
3. Optimum Weather Ventilation (Transitional
Ventilation)
Minimum ventilation:
Cold Weather Ventilation is
• Used to provide fresh air inside the house
• Removes excessive moisture and minimize heat loss
• Fans exhaust air to produce slight negative pressure
• Air inlets installed either in ceiling or high on side wall
• These inlets allowing air to mix with warmer air there
Minimum ventilation
Tunnel Ventilation:
Hot Weather Ventilation
 Is a negative pressure system
 Exhaust fans are located at one side
 Two large opening are installed in opposite side
 Cooling pads & misting nozzles are also installed
 It create high velocity airflow usually 500 ft or 122m/min
 It is efficient method to reduce heat stress on birds
Tunnel Ventilation
Transitional Ventilation:
Optimum Ventilation is
 Fall and spring are transitional season
 A difficult time for farmers to manage ventilation
 Temperature difference of day and night ranges from 15 to
20 degree centigrade
 Wind chill require at day time but may hurt bird performance
at night
 Hence switching between minimum & tunnel depending
upon outside temperature
Transitional Ventilation
Positive Pressure System:
 It basically uses fans to push air into the house
 A number of system are used in poultry house
 One system pushes warm air & mix it with inside air
 Other system pump the air through ducts with outlet
 It distributes heat and mix air in the house
Positive Pressure System
Combined Ventilation System:
 It uses two types of fans
 Exhaust fans create the negative pressure in house
 Blower fans outside the house to pump fresh cool air
 It is used in summer & to distributive air in old house
 Incoming air is drawn through evaporative coolers
instead of inlets
Combined Ventilation System
Basic Tools of Ventilation System:
 Air inlets
 Controller
 Cooling Pads
 Temperature sensors
 Static Pressure Sensors
 Exhaust Fans (Cone or Box fans)
