3. AGRICULTURE
 Punjab Agriculture is highly popular all over India. Punjab is well-known for its
agricultural activities and plantations. Agricultural activities have occupied a high
percentage of land in Punjab because of its land which is perfect for cropping.
 Out of the total agriculture land of Punjab, almost 99% is irrigated through canals
or tubewells. It is often said that Punjab has a extensive network of canals for
irrigation, but the fact is that only about 27% of the total cultivated area is irrigated
through canals and rest 73% is irrigated through tubewells.
 Punjab is one of the prominent northern agrarian states of India. Its contribution to
agriculture and Indian economy has been remarkable and it has made India self-
reliant in food. Punjab is the food bowl of India.
 Wheat and paddy is the major crop of the district. Sugarcane, maize, pulses, oil seed
crops, vegetables and fruits are also grown in the district.

 Punjab is separated culturally into three regions: Malwa, Majha, and
Doaba. Punjab has one of the oldest and richest cultures of the world. Its

spirituality, education, artistry, music, cuisine, science, technology, military
warfare, architecture, traditions, values and history.
 Punjabis are known to be very helpful, welcoming and proud people. They

 Punjab is a developed state in terms of industry and many different type of
industries are located in the state.Jalandhar And Ludhiana, are the main
industrial cities of Punjab.
 Punjab is the leading hub for textile-based industries such as apparel
manufacturing, spinning and hosiery exports with Ludhiana being the
biggest manufacturing.
 Major industries in Punjab include food processing, tractors and auto
components, agro-based parts, bicycle and bicycle parts, sports goods,
light engineering goods, metal and alloys, chemical products, textiles, IT
and Pharmaceuticals.
 There are nearly 194,000 small scale industrial units in the state in addition
to 586 large and medium units. Ludhiana is an important center for
industry.

9. TOURISM
 Punjab receives many religious tourists, as the state is home to some of
the holiest places in Sikhism, including the Harmandir Sahib and three of
the five Panj Takht.

and boost spending. Deregulation relaxes the rules imposed on businesses
and have been credited with creating growth but can lead to excessive
risk-taking.
