Config management for_kubernetes: GitOps + Helm (CfgMgmtCamp 2020)

Kubernetes provides a declarative API, so you can describe the desired state of the system. And then it is the role of the control plane to operate the cluster (make the actual state match the desired state).
But we still need config mgmt for API objects to the point when they are applied to the cluster.
Helm helps to organize these configs into charts, template them, and manage releases. And GitOps lets you use a git repo as a single source of truth for the desired state of the whole system. Then all changes to this state are delivered as git commits instead of using kubectl apply or helm upgrade.
In this talk I will introduce the GitOps model for operating cloud native environments and give a short demo.

Understanding the dynamics of GPU utilization and workloads in containerized systems is critical to creating efficient software systems. We create a set of dashboards to monitor and evaluate GPU performance in the context of TensorFlow. We monitor performance in real time to gain insight into GPU load, GPU memory and temperature metrics in a Kubernetes GPU enabled system. Visualizing TensorFlow training job metrics in real time using Prometheus allows us to tune and optimize GPU usage. Also, because Tensor flow jobs can have both GPU and CPU implementations it is useful to view detailed real time performance data from each implementation and choose the best implementation. To illustrate our system, we will show a live demo gathering and visualizing GPU metrics on a GPU enabled Kubernetes cluster with Prometheus and Grafana.

This document describes migrating a database from a standalone MySQL configuration to a Galera cluster for high availability and redundancy. Configuration files are shown for Galera settings like the state snapshot transfer method and slave threads. System information is displayed for one of the Galera nodes including the large production database size and high query throughput.
