Do you know the word “LibreOffice”?
● Please raise your hand if you don't know…
About ODF
● File format specification for office applications
● Standard: ISO/IEC 26300
● Based on OpenOffice.org file format
● Supported software:
– LibreOffice, Apache OpenOffice, Microsoft Office 2013
later(for ODF1.2), Google Docs,
Why ODFwas created
● There was no standard file format for office
applications
● Microsoft office was in a proprietary format
and the specification was not disclosed
● Many users were in trouble with file
interoperability
Importance of interoperability
● In the past, there were many sites that could
not be seen by each web browsers
– The web world was fragmented
● Long ago, computers from different
manufacturers could not communicate with
each other
Bad standard case
● Standards managed by a company hinder fair
competition
● Because companies will make the most money
if they hinder competition and monopolize
About LibreOffice
● Powerful Office Suite
● Free Software/OpenSouce Software
– Liberty, not price
● Community based Development
– Community members founded The Document
Foundation, a legal entity in February 2012 as an NPO in
Germany
About LibreOffice (2)
● Desktop version: Windows / MacOS / Linux
● Online version : Edit in web browser
● Android / iOS version:
– Currently under development
– Implementation method changed from previous
version
History of LibreOffice
● 28 Sep. 2010, fork from OpenOffice.org
Wikimedia Commons
LibreOffice application
● Word processor : Writer
● Spreadsheet : Calc
● Presentation : Impress

Demo
Whywe are making LibreOffice?
● Is there Microsoft Office?
● We are making free office software
– We believe that users should have the freedom to
run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve
the software that we distribute. (LibreOffice web
site)
Our purpose
● Eliminate the digital divide
● Empower all as full citizens
● Support the preservation of mother tongues
● Avoid proprietary software and format lock-in

Potential and impact of FLOSS
(Free/Libre and Open Source Software)
The world is supported in FLOSS
● The Internet world is almost FLOSS
● Block chain
● AI
● ...
Collaboration and open innovation
● One company alone cannot make a big
innovation
● We need to collaborate and innovate together
● FLOSS is best fit for it
OpenData
● Wikipedia
● OpenStreetMap
● Many project…
● Governments and companies also provide
open data
Wikimedia Project
● Not only Wikipedia
● Wikimedia Commons
– Images, sounds, videos, and general media
● Wikidata
– document-oriented items database, Hot project now
● Wiktionary
● Wikibooks
● Wikiquote
● ...
OpenStreetMap
● This is a volunteer-based project to create maps
● Something like a map version of Wikipedia
● Provided as open data
● In many cases, use data in web services or apps
rather than directly from the project website
– Facebook, Pokemon GO, Maps.ME, ...so many
A catalog site where you can find open data
published by the Indonesian government
Goverment OpenData
● Government data should be default-by-open
– Only information related to safety such as privacy is
kept private
● Need a mechanism to automatically archive and
publish
– Like git to manage source code
● All governments are now far from ideal
Open government
● Open government movement
● Useing FLOSS concepts and methods
● Improved transparency
● Citizens join as volunteers in government
activities. A world where full-time and volunteer
work together
How to contribute to FLOSS
Why contribute?
● If the product improves, we will be happy as a
user
● It's so fun and exciting
● To learn and experience
– You can challenge only where you are interested
Contributing in various fields
● Development
● Testing
● Translation
– UI/Help, Document
● Documentation
● Other user support
● Marketing and event management
QA:QualityAssurance and Testing
● Users may use and encounter problems
– You can report bugs
– We can not fix unreported bugs
– Bug reports are very important
● It is important to report documentation errors
and other porblem
How to bug report of LibreOffice
1. Create your account
2.log in
3.Report a bug
UI/Help translation
How to use LibreOffice
Writer: word processor
● Usage is almost similar to Word
● Convenient sidebar
● Use paragraph styles
Interoperability techniques
● Unify organizational environment with freely
licensed fonts
– Misalignment occurs if the font is different
● For example, Google fonts are high quality
Sidebar is convenient
Sidebar (2)
● The properties dialog automatically switches
depending on what is selected
Use paragraph styles
● Click the style button on the
sidebar
● Click the paragraph button
when the style dialog changes
● Place the cursor on the paragraph
you want to set and click the style
you want to select
Style is convenient
● Close to the Web style sheet
● Separate content and style
● The same style can be changed at once
– Especially important for long documents such as
manuals
Use Heading Style
● Heading(Tidak) 1,2,3
● Can generate table of contents automatically
Table of contents
● Select menu [insert]-[Table of Contents and
Index]-[Table of Contents,Bibliography]
● Select menu [Sisip]-[Daftar Isi dan Indeks]-
[Daftar Isi, Indeks, atau Bibliograhi]
Conclusion
● ODF and LibreOffice realize the world of free and
liberty office software
● FLOSS supports innovation around the world
● Contributing to FLOSS is a fun and useful
activity
● Using LibreOffice is very easy. Let's try!
