Compost tea can be used to nourish the soil food web and benefit soil microorganisms. The soil food web includes bacteria, fungi, protozoa, nematodes, and arthropods that play important roles in soil health. Actively aerated compost tea is produced by introducing oxygen and food to compost over 24 hours, multiplying beneficial microbes. It contains billions of microbes per teaspoon and can be applied to soil and foliage to inoculate the rhizosphere and phyllosphere with beneficial organisms that compete with pathogens. Proper brewing and application of compost tea can help balance the soil food web.
