This document discusses using Microsoft PowerPoint to support emergent literacy skill development in young children. It outlines the technical features of PowerPoint like easy modification, printing notes and handouts, adding graphics, animation and sound. It also discusses pedagogical features like acquiring knowledge, enhancing problem solving skills. The teacher's role is to explicitly teach targeted skills through modeling and guided instruction. Students' role is to learn skills through modeling and make independent responses. An example is provided of using a PowerPoint presentation to teach the 'b' sound with graphics and teacher script. Assessment slides would then evaluate if skills were acquired.
