Ursula von Rydingsvard is a German-born sculptor who lives and works in New York. She creates abstract sculptures out of wood, primarily cedar, and other materials like graphite and polyurethane resin. Von Rydingsvard's background, having lived through World War 2 in Nazi refugee camps, influences her work as she finds inspiration in primitive and vernacular objects and aims to show the meeting of the natural and man-made. One of her most notable works is "Damski Czepek", located in Madison Square Park, which resembles a bonnet and allows viewers to sit under it.
