Adoption is the legal process whereby a person assumes the parenting of another, usually a child, from that person's biological or legal parent or parents. It establishes a parent-child relationship between individuals who are not related biologically. The main purpose of adoption is to provide a permanent family for a child whose biological parents are unable or unwilling to care for them, or who have had their parental rights terminated.
