• India is diverse; tourists who traverse through various parts of India have always been
fascinated by India's cultural and geographical richness, architectural marvels, exclusive
heritage sites, majestic monuments, and exotic flora and fauna.
• There are zillions of unexplored destinations within the country which offer an
unforgettable experience to all types of tourists and make India an awe-inspiring
nation.
• From Himalayas in the north to the Indian ocean in the south, India has an ample
number of places that are still left unexplored and unheard of. Lets have a glimpse of
some of the best unexplored destinations.

Sandakphu (East India)
• Sandakfu or Sandakphu is the highest peak in the state of West Bengal, India. The
Sandakphu is the culminating point of many trekking routes in the Darjeeling-Sikkim
region. It is the highest point on the Singalila ridge that forms the border between
Eastern Nepal and India. The peaks of Kanchanjanga and Everest can be seen from its
summit.
• Sandakphu is resplendent with the ethereal beauty of magnolias, rhododendrons,
primulas and other sub-alpine flowers. It also contains more than 600 varieties of
orchids.The temperature swings from -20 C (including wind chill factor) in winter to
+15C in summer. Sandakphu gets snowfall in late December to early February.

Sar Pass and Chanderkhani Pass, Himachal Pradesh
• Sar Pass Trail offers an opportunity to enjoy the exquisite beauty of Parvati Valley. For
those looking forward to experiencing an adrenaline rush or for those seeking solace
with a bit of thrill, head to Sur pass and Chanderkhani pass in Himachal Pradesh, where
it is inspiring to tread as very few have done so before.
• Situated 0.1at a height of 13,800 ft, The Sar Pass territory has places for trekking and a
landscape that changes with every turn you take on the 80km trail.

Lepchajagat, West Bengal
• Lepchajagat is located on a hill covered with Oaks forests and beautiful rhododendron.
It is situated on Ghoom-Mirik road at the Sukhipokhri near Darjeeling.
• This place has an astonishing exquisiteness that is difficult to get over. The curious play
of colors in the sky strikes you straight away.
• Partly black and white clouds drift from one hill to another. The other places close by
that are not to be missed include Jorepokri, Mirik and Pashupati.

Gokarna, Karnataka
• Gokarna, with its blue seas and clean sands, coconut palms and pristine quaint beaches
is perfect for an idyllic vacation by the sea. Gokarna is located in North Karnataka.
• A pleasant surprise is the beach which resembles 'Om', the Sanskrit symbol for the
invocation that is believed to have created the universe.
• Gokarna is pretty much a round-the-year destination, although you'd be well advised to
avoid it during the monsoon. Also in the Northern part of Karnataka, on a thin strip of
tropical sand lies Karwar, bound by the Western Ghats on its eastern side and
embraced by the Arabian Sea on the west.

Sindhudurg fort, Malvan Region,
Maharashtra
• Filled with fascinating forts and coastlines, the Malvan region is one the premiere
places for a peaceful holiday to seep in history or to soak up the sun.
• Sindhudurg fort stands on a rocky island, known as Kurte, barely a km, from the
Malavan is 510 kms south of Mumbai and 130 kms north of Goa. It is one of the best
preserved forts of the Marathas; the 48 acre Sindhudurg fort has a four kms long zigzag
line of 9 metres high and 3 metres wide rampart with 42 bastions. The massive walls
were designed to serve as a deterrent to approaching enemies and to the waves and
tides of the Arabian Sea.
• Apart from the Fort, one can relax on the beaches of Tarkarli and Chiwla beach in
Malwan region. These beaches are neat and clean and very less crowded.

• Marleshwar, which literally means the ‘God of Marle village’, is a religious place located
about 60 km from Ganpatipule, in Ratnagiri District. Here you can have a look at the
popular shiva temple called Marleshwar.
• The uniqueness of the temple is that there used to be various snakes in the temple but
they did not bite the devotees. Still people can found snakes there.
• The waterfall sight is very beautiful from the cave but we don't get an idea about the
height of the waterfall from here. We will have to go beyond 'KarambeliDoh' for that.
From this temple you can also have a look at the mountains of Sahyadris. This place is a
real place of tranquility to visit .
Dhareshwar Falls, Marleshwar

• Lingana is a massive pinnacle on the mainline of the Sahyadris between Raigad and
Torna. It is the toughest natural rock climb in the Sahyadri mountains. The rock/soil
found on Lingana is of Basalt type.
• Lingana fort was built by Shivaji in 1648 to secure central Konkan against the Sidis.
Under the Marathas, Lingana was used as a penal settlement. During the ancient days,
Lingana fort, situated in the mid-portion of the hill used to be a prison housing
hardcore prisoners. These prisoners were made to climb to the fort with the help of
ladders and subsequently the ladders were removed once they reached the fort.

Frozen Waterfall @ Gomukh, Uttarkashi
• "Gaumukh" literally means "Mouth of a Cow". It is the terminus or snout of the
Gangotri Glacier, from where Bhagirathi River originates. The place is situated at a
height of 12,760 ft. It is one of the largest in the Himalayas with an estimated volume of
over 27 cubic kilometers.
• Gomukh is 18 km from Gangotri in the foot hills of Bhagirathi at a height of
4255m. Many saints, holy travelers, Trekkers as well as religious people went here to
worship the place. It is the paradise where one would find things in its purest form. One
must visit this place for the panoramic view and lovely clean air. It has much more to
offer than just its religious significance.

Chembra Peak (highest peak in Wayanad)
• It is the highest peak in Wayanad, at 2,100 metres (6,900 ft) above sea level. Chembra
is located near the town of Meppady and is 8 km south of Kalpetta. It is part of the
Wayanad hill ranges in Western Ghats, adjoining the Nilgiri Hills in Tamilnadu and
Vellarimala in Kozhikode district in Kerala.
• Chembra peak is accessible by foot from Meppady. It is a paradise for the trekkers &
the District Tourism also promote it. Permission from the forest office in Meppady is
required for trekking up to Chembra Peak.
• A heart shaped lake on the way to the top of the peak is a major tourist attraction. The
lake is believed to have never dried up.

Rajmachi Fortifications, Pune
• Rajmachi (Udhewadi) is a small village in the rugged mountains of Sahyadri in
India. There are two forts which were built by Emperor Shivaji during 17th century.
Rajmachi fort is a strategic fort overlooking Borghat(ghat between Mumbai and Pune)
which was a historical trade route.
• Rajmachi peak has two fortified structures – the taller one in the east is Shrivardhan
fort and the other in the west is Manaranjan fort. Rajmachi is a unique fort having wide
plateau on all sides of the twin fortresses.
• Kal Bhairava temple is situated in the col between Shrivardhan and Manaranjan.

Muppandal Wind Farms, Suchindram
• The development of wind power in India began in the 1990s, and has significantly
increased in the last few years. Although a relative newcomer to the wind industry
compared with Denmark or the US.
• As of 31 March 2011 from the installed capacity of wind power in India, it is mainly
spread across Tamil Nadu. This picture represent Suchindram, Tamil Nadu, which is a
panchayat town in Kanyakumari district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
• It is also an important pilgrim centre and the site of the famous Thanumalayan Temple.
People have started producing their own electricity.

Kangchenjunga, Sikkim
• Kangchenjunga is the third highest mountain of the world with an elevation of 8,586 m
and located along the India-Nepal border in the Himalayas.
• Three of the five peaks – main, central, and south – are on the border of North Sikkim
in India and Taplejung District of Nepal, while the other two are completely in
Taplejung District. The Kangchenjunga Himal includes twelve more peaks over 7,000 m
(23,000 ft).
• Kangchenjunga was first climbed on May 25, 1955 by Joe Brown and George Band, who
were part of a British expedition. The name Kangchenjunga stems from Bhutia and
Tibetan languages.

Karla Caves, Karli, Maharasthra
• Karla Caves are the largest cave temple (chaitya) in India and is located in Karli near
Lonavala, Maharashtra. The caves lie near a major ancient trade route, running
eastward from the Arabian Sea into the Deccan.
• These rock cut caves are developed over two periods – from the 2nd century BC to the
2nd century AD, and from the 5th century to the 10th century by Buddhist nuns.
• These caves exhibit Buddhist ideologies through inscriptions and stupas. The Chaitya
hall is spectacular with 37 octagonal pillars with a base structure of a water jar and it
has a special feature of the facade screen made out of teak wood.

Countryside in Alwar, Rajasthan, India
• The princely state of Alwar was founded by Pratap Singh, a Rajput of the Kachwaha
lineage, in 1770. It is a city famous for its scenic landscape. It is located around 160 km
south of Delhi, and about 150 km north of Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan.
• India's highest ever recorded temperature of 50.6 °C (123.1 °F) was measured at Alwar
on 10 May 1956. Alwar was formerly the capital of the princely state of Alwar. It was
formerly spell as "Ulwar" in British India. This placed it in last position in alphabetically
ordered lists, so a king changed the spelling to "Alwar" to bring it to the top.

Karsha Monastery (Jammu-Kashmir)
• Karsha is a Buddhist monastery in the Padum Valley of the Zanskar region of of
Jammu and Kashmir in northern India. The Doda River flows past the monastery from
its source at the DrangDrung glacier of the Pensi La.
• The oldest remaining structure, an Avalokiteshvara temple, Chuk-shik-jal, contains wall
paintings which seem to associate it with the era of Rinchen Zangpo (958-1055). The
monastery is under the control of the younger brother of the Dalai Lama. Behind his
seat in the chapel is a statue of Lhaso Cho Rinpoche, which was brought from Lhasa in
the 1960s and has a golden crown with carnelian and turquoise decorations.

The Sun Temple, Modhera, Gujarat
• The Sun Temple a temple dedicated to the Hindu Sun-God, Surya. The Modhera sun
temple is situated on the bank of the river Pushpavati, 25 km from Mehsana and 102
km from Ahmedabad.
• The Sun Temple was built by Rushabh Bhimdev I of Solanki Dynasty in AD 1026. This
was the same place where Lord Rama perform yagna to purify himself from the Sin of
Brahma-hatya.
• The temple comprises three separate but axially-aligned and integrated elements -
Surya Kund and SabhaMandap. Modhera dance festival is scheduled to be held during
the third week of January every year.

Hogenakkal Waterfall, Tamil Nadu
• Hogenakkal Falls or Hogenakal Falls is a waterfall located in Dharmapuridistict,
Tamil Nadu on the river Kaveri. It is about 180 km (110 mi) from Bangalore and 46 km
(29 mi) from Dharmapuri town.
• Hogenakkal is located about 750 feet above sea level amidst the Melagiri Hills. With its
fame for medicinal baths and hide boat rides, it is a major site of tourist attraction.
Carbonatite rocks in this site are considered to be the oldest of its kind in South Asia
and one of the oldest in the world.
• The best season to visit is soon after the monsoons, when the river is in full spate but
some people love to go in Off Season to avoid crowd. Having a Local coracles ride is a
great fun.

Stone Chariot, Vitthala Temple, Hampi
• The most splendid of temples at Vijayanagar is the Vitthala temple, near the
Tungabhadra river in Hampi. It is considered to be the most ornate of the Vijayanagar
temples. Hampi is a village in northern Karnataka state, India situated on the banks of
the Tungabhadra river.
• The center of the Mahamandapam has sixteen pillars decorated with Narasimha and
Yali, forming a rectangular court. The ceiling of the Mahamandapam is also covered
with sculptural work.
• The stone chariot in this temple is of great fame. Its stone wheels, each shaped in the
form of a lotus, are capable of revolving. The annual Vijayanagar Festival is organized
by the Government of Karnataka in November.

Kibber, Himachal Pradesh
• Kibber is a village high in the Spiti Valley in the Himalayas at 4270 metres or 14,200 ft in
Himachal Pradesh in northern India. The major attraction here is a monastery and the
Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary. It is located 6 kilometres from Kaza and a bus service
connects them in the milder summer months.
• Kibber Monastery was founded by Serkang Rimpochhe of Tabo. The landscape around
it is frequently punctuated with prayer flags, chortens, and small cairns decorated with
rams horns, all of which adds to the "last outpost of humanity" feeling.
• Villagers count on the 3 day traditional trade route over Parang La to Ladakh to barter
their horses for yaks or to sell for cash.

Kutch / Rann Mahotsav, Kutch, Gujarat
• The Rann Utsav is a unique opportunity for people around the world to visit Kutch and
experience the true flavor of this beautiful arid region. The fair celebrates the diversity
and uniqueness of the Kutch and the cultural splendor of Gujarat.
• The Utsav includes cultural and folk dances, music, craftsmanship, carnival processions,
pageantry and an encapsulation of the true spirit and zeal of Kutch inhabitants. A grand
Tent City of 400 tents, consisting of both air- conditioned and non-air-conditioned
tents, have been set up on the outskirt of bordering village of Dhorado in the Rann
(White Salt Desert spread over miles).
• Nearly 32 cultural troupes from various districts of Gujarat participates in the Dance
and Musical Carnival.

Agrasen ki Baoli, New Delhi
• Agrasen ki Baoli is also known as Agar Sainki Baoli or Ugrasen ki Baoli. It is a 60 meter
long and 15 meter wide historical step well on Hailey Road near Connaught Place.
Although there are no known historical records to prove who built Agrasen ki Baoli, it is
believed that it was originally built by the legendary king Agrasen during the
Mahabharat epic era and rebuilt in the 14th century by the Agrawal community.
• Baoli or bawdi is a Hindi word or vapi, vapika. Water temples and temple step wells
were built in ancient India and the earliest forms of step well and reservoir were also
built in India in places like Dholavira as far back as the Indus Valley Civilization.
• The visible parts of this historical step well consist of three levels. Each level is lined
with arched niches on both sides.

• Formerly known as Murumdev, Rajgad is one of the famous Pune District Fort in
Maharashtra, India. This fort is approximately 1326 meters above sea level.
• It was capital of the Maratha Kingdom (Hindavi Swarajya) ruled by Chhatrapati Shivaji
Maharaj for almost 26 years, after which he moved to Raigad fort and made that his
capital. Rajgad is south-west 40 Kms from Pune. Rajgad is famous for its construction.
• Rajgad is famous for its Padmavati Machi, Sanjivani Machi, Suvela Machi and 'Bale killa'
- the pride of Maharashtra. The diameter of the fort at the base is 40 km making it
difficult for anybody to lay siege to it.

Chadar Trek, Zanskar, Ladakh, India
• Chadar Trek is well known as a very unique winter trek & expedition, One of the
toughest and most adventurous trek in Ladakh. Chadar means white sheet of crystal ice
and it is a lifetime experience for the trekkers. This trek is considered as one of the
most exciting and unique treks on shiny ice on the bank of Tsarap River.
• Most of the trek is done on the ice (Chaddar) but at some places we must climb icy
rocks or trails and in Zanskar itself we can walk through the normal trail used by the
people daily. The trek goes along the Tsarap River in the region of Nyerag, Lingshed and
constitutes to Zanskar!
• The temperature remains minus 15 to 20 during the day time and –25 to –35 during the
night.

Bhutanatha Temple, Badami, Karnataka
• Bhutanatha Temple is a sandstone temples dedicated to the deity Bhutanatha, in
Badami town of Karnataka. Lord Shiva is worshiped as the God of Souls in the
Bhutanatha Temple. It has a superstructure that resembles early South Indian style or
North Indian style with its open mantapa extending into the lake.
• The inner shrine and mantapa (hall) were constructed in the late 7th century during the
reign of the Badami Chalukyas while the outer mantapa, facing the Badami tank, was
completed during the rule of the Kalyani Chalukyas of the 11th century.
• In the inner hall, a heavy architrave above the columns divides the hall into a central
nave and two aisles. There is no dedicatory block upon the lintel to indicate to which
deity the initial dedication was for.

Mawsmai Caves, Meghalaya
• Situated close to Cherrapunji, the Mawsmai cave made of limestone is one of the more
popular destinations of Meghalaya. The emotion of thrill heightens as you enter the
cave. The entrance has a narrow vertical opening.
• As you move further, you will notice dripping of water from the cave roofs and the
formation of stalactites and stalagmites, a wonderful phenomena specially found in
limestone caves. The opportunities to see various shapes, forms and figurines are
endless. Although the caves are quite dark inside.
• According to the legend the Mawsmai Caves were discovered by the Khasi tribesmen
while they were out for hunting. If You are planning to flock to Meghalaya, then do

Gingee / Jinji Fort (Tamil nadu)
• Gingee / Jinji Fort is one of the few surviving forts in Villupuram District, 160 Km from
Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It was so well fortified that Shivaji ranked it as the "most
impregnable fortress in India" and it was called the "Troy of the East" by the British. It
was built in 9th Century AD by Chola dynasty.
• The actual name of Gingee is 'Sengiri' meaning perhaps the "Red Hill" in Tamil that has
got corrupted into Gingee. The fort consists of three hills (Krishnagiri, Chakkilidrug and
Rajagiri hills), connected by walls enclosing an area of 7 square kilometres (2.7 sq mi). It
had an eight-storeyed Kalyana Mahal (marriage hall), granaries, prison cells, a military
gymnasium and a temple dedicated to its presiding Hindu goddess called Chenjiamman.

Chitkul, Himachal Pradesh
• Chitkul is the last & highest inhabited village near the Indo-Tibet border in Baspa valley.
It is situated on the right bank of Baspa river. There is a road along the left bank from
Karcham. In winters the place remains covered with the snow.
• Pea is the main cash crop and some farmers grow potatoes which are one of the best in
the world but sometimes very costly. This is a place also known for old Hindustan-Tibet
trade route, In ancient times Tibetans would come through this village to barter wools,
leather, tools in exchange of salt, wheat and vegetables.
• It is also the last point in India one can travel to without a permit. Chitkul is around 750
km from the National capital Delhi and 24 km from Sangla. This is the last Indian village
on border with China.

Chandra Taal, Himanchal Pradesh
• Chandra Taal is situated at an altitude of about 4,300 metres (14,100 ft) in the
Himalayas. Mountains of scree overlook the lake on one side, and a magnificent cirque
presents a view on the other. Situated in the Spiti part of the Lahul and Spiti, Chandra
Taal is a popular destination for trekkers and campers.
• The lake is accessible on foot from Batal as well as from Kunzum Pass from late May to
early October. The road from Kunzum Pass is accessible only on foot, and it is about 8
km from Chandra Taal. During springtime, these meadows are carpeted with hundreds
of kinds of wildflowers. The most surprising thing about this lake is that there is no
visible source of this lake but there is a visible outlet of this lake which means that
water to this lake comes from underground.

Pulicat Lake, Tamil Nadu
• Pulicat Lake straddles the border of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu states on the
Coromandal Coast in South India. The lake encompasses the Pulicat Lake Bird
Sanctuary. The barrier island of Sri Hari Kota separates the lake from the Bay of Bengal.
• Three major rivers which feed the lagoon. Every year approximately 15,000 Greater
Flamingos are reported to visit the lake along with pelicans, kingfishers, herons, painted
storks, spoonbills and ducks.
• An average 1200 tones of fish and crustaceans are harvested annually, of which prawns
constitute 60%, followed by mullets. Seafood exports of white and Tiger prawns,
jellyfish, finfish and live lagoon Green crabs.

Orchha (or Urchha) Palace, Madhya Pradesh
• Orchha Palace is a small town in Madhya Pradesh – is a peaceful place ‘far from the
madding crowd’. The medieval city of Orchha seems to have frozen in time, its palaces
and temples still retaining their original grandeur.
• Orchha had the distinction of being the capital of one of the largest and most powerful
kingdoms of Central India. The Bundela Rajput chieftain, Rudra Pratap, founded the
city, located by the side of the beautiful Betwa River, in the 16th century.
• The word Orchha means 'hidden'. The fort consists of several connected buildings
erected at different times, the most noteworthy of which are the Raja Mahal and the
Jahangir Mahal.

Deogarh Mahal, Deogarh, Rajasthan
• A magnificent palace located on the top a hill at Deogarh, provides a picturesque views
of the village, lake, and the beautiful mountains of the Aravali range. Deogarh is also
famous the miniature painting school, the example of the fine art called fresco can be
seen on the walls of the palace.
• The palace was built in 1670 A.D. now converted into a heritage hotel offering an
unforgettable experience & a comfortable stay. Gorgeous rooms and suites are
scattered around various wings of the lovely honey-coloured building.
• The collection of Vintage cars at Deogarh & horse riding on Deogarh family owning it’s
own horse stables is also worth enjoying.

Abbey Falls Karnataka
• Abbey Falls is in Kodagu, in the Western Ghats in Karnataka, India. It is located 8 km
from the town of Madikeri (Coorg) in the mountains of Western Ghats and 268 km
from Bangalore.
• Here several streams combine, swelling with the monsoon rains and plunging down the
mountain slope at enormous speed, hitting the huge boulders hard and forcing through
the crevices and ravines.
• During the monsoon season the water flow is very high. A hanging bridge constructed
just opposite the falls comes in handy for the Tourists. There is a Kali Mata temple on
the other side of the bridge and Coffee and Black Pepper trees on the other side.

The Bodhi Tree, Bihar
• The Bodhi Tree was a large and very old Sacred Fig tree (Ficusreligiosa) located in
Bodh Gaya (about 100 km from Patna, Bihar). It is the tree under which under which
Gautama Buddha, is said to have achieved enlightenment, or Bodhi.
• In religious iconography, the Bodhi tree is recognizable by its heart-shaped leaves. The
term "Bodhi Tree" is also widely applied to currently existing trees, particularly the
Sacred Fig growing at the Mahabodhi Temple, which is a direct descendant planted in
288 BC from the original specimen.
• The Bodhi Tree in Bodhgaya, Bihar is a direct descendent of the tree under which
Siddharta Gautama is attained enlightenment. After 49 days of meditation, it was here
that Siddharta Guatama became the Buddha, the "Enlightened One".

Tabo, Himanchal Pradesh
• Tabo Monastery was founded in 996AD at an altitude of 3,280 meters. Tabo is a small
town in the Lahaul and Spiti district on the banks of the Spiti River in Himachal Pradesh,
India.
• Within the ancient monastery's compound are nine temples built between the late
10th and the 17th century and numerous stupas. Main temple preserves an
extraordinary wealth of documentation of the history and culture (includes paintings,
sculptures, inscriptions and extensive wall texts) of that period.
• It was developed as an advanced centre for learning and till date it has managed to
preserve the Buddhist legacy with the same steadfastness. Tabo was the brainchild of
the great translator and teacher, Rinchensang Po.

Borra Caves / BorraGuhalu, Visakhapatnam
• Borra caves are about 90 km away from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, at the height
of 1450 feet above the sea level in the Ananthagiri hill ranges of eastern ghats. These
are the natural caves, said to have originated from the Gosthaniriver, which flows
through these caves.
• The opening of the cave measures upto 100m horizontally and 75 m vertically. Borra
caves glitters and illuminates by the sixty three lamps of mercury, sodium vapor and
halogen which make the interior of the caves colorful and spectacular.
• In 1807, these caves were discovered by William King George from the Geological
Survey of India. November and December are considered as the best time to visit these
caves.

Pyramid valley, Bangalore
• Pyramid valley is been selected as one of the 7 wonders of Bangalore. It stands proud
at above 101 ft. Its base measures 160 ft by 160 ft with the main meditation area
spanning 25,600 sq. ft. which can accommodate about 5000 people.
• It is located 30 km from Banashankari Temple, 4 km before Harohalli and 1.2 km just
after Kebbedoddi bus stop, on Kanakapura Road. It is believed that pyramids can
attract huge energy, so meditating here can shower one with positive energy.
• This Pyramid is constructed on the principles of Giza Pyramid, oriented exactly in the
North – South direction, having the golden angle of inclination at 51° 51’ and the King’s
Chamber located at the center at 1/3rd the height of the Pyramid.

Sheesh Mahal, Punjab
• Sheesh Mahal or the ‘Palace of Mirrors’ in Patiala (Punjab) was built by Maharaja
Narinder Singh in 1845 behind the main Moti Bagh Palace. The Palace was built in a
forest with terraces, gardens, fountains and an artificial lake.
• The lake has two watchtowers in the north and the south, and is connected to the
Banasar Ghar, a storehouse for stuffed animals. The Sheesh Mahal, which was a
residential palace, has a suspension bridge.

Lonar Lake Maharashtra
• Lonar Lake is a saltwater lake at Lonar in Buldana district, Maharashtra, India, which
was created by a meteor hitting the Earth during the Pleistocene Epoch. The impact
crater thereby formed is the only hypervelocity meteoritic impact crater on basalt rock.
• A lake that evolved in the resulting basaltic rock formation, is both saline and alkaline in
nature. It has a mean diameter of 1.2 kilometres (3,900 ft) and is about 137 metres
(449 ft) below the crater rim. The meteor crater rim is about 1.8 kilometres (5,900 ft) in
diameter. The circular depression bears a saline water lake in its central portion.
