Introduction
For adventure enthusiasts, skiing in Manali
takes you on an experience of a lifetime in the
most favorite tourist destination of India.
Manali is easily deserving of many titles that it
has earned. The cultural and adventure hub of
the state of Himachal Pradesh, Manali is the
true gem in the Kullu Valley, nestled on the
slopes of it in all its glory and beauty. A
gateway to many brilliant getaways of
Himachal and other great places in the
Himalayas, Manali is the most popular place to
visit in the country, experiencing an annual
footfall in hundreds of thousands.
It is home to many well-known attractions, like
Hadimba Temple, Manu Temple, and Rohtang Pass, the Great Himalayan National Park,
Nehru Kund, Beas Kund, Bhrigu Lake and many other such noticeable names that are
flocked with tourists throughout the year.
Winters bring an all new edge to the beauty of this place by adding the pearly white color to
the whole city. And the best place to see the effect that snow brings to this serene city is to
visit the amazing Solang Valley. A hotspot for paragliding and zorbing, the valley doubles as
a snowy resort in the winters, attracting visitors to try their hands at some Manali Skiing.
Solang valley has turned into a major ski destination in India. Tourists while traveling
to Manali often travel to Solang for its adventure fueled geography. Solang is little
before Rohtang Pass; another major tourist attraction in the region. In Solang Valley the
Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, which is a skier’s paradise, the
adventure activities like paragliding, snowboarding & zorbing, camping under the stars, and the
gondola or the Solang Ropeway.

The closest main town to Solang valley is Manali (13.2 km away) in the state of
Himachal Pradesh. Thus, in order to reach the hill station, one has to travel to
Manali, which is accessible through various means.
By Air: Bhuntar (KUU) airport is the nearest airport to Manali town. It operates flights
from various cities of India and is only 10 km away from the town.

the district of Mandi will be the nearest. From there, one can hire taxis or cabs to the
hill station of Manali.

of roads connect the hill station with popular cities of North India like Delhi (540 km),
Dehradun (227 km) and Chandigarh (305 km). You can make use of your own vehicle
or hire a taxi/cab to reach Manali. Volvo bus service from the major cities is also a
very good option to the hill station.
Attractions in Manali:
 Solang Valley is quiet and is best approached by road. The drive up to Solang is
extremely picturesque. Once you are there, try out some Chinese food from the local
roadside shacks, and enjoy the views. The road ahead is blocked since a tunnel to Koksar
(a village ahead of Rohtang La) is now being built there.
 The Manali Club House is maintained by the Himachal Tourism Development
Corporation. It is one of the best centers of recreation in Manali. Located at the
foothills of old Manali town, the Club House offers alluring views of the lush green
surroundings.
You can enjoy various indoor and outdoor games at the Club House by paying nominal
charges. Some of the games and facilities at the Club House include an auditorium,
billiardsroom, library, roller skating rink, carom room, bar and restaurant.
 Hadimba Temple the 15th-century Hadimba Temple was built to commemorate Hadimba
Devi, from the Indian spiritual epic Mahabharata. What’s equally striking is the cedar
forest that surrounds the temple, which adds to its earthy appeal.
 The Beas River, also known as Vipasha in Sanskrit, flows in Himachal Pradesh and
Punjab. From its originating point (4361 m) in the Himalayas, this holy river passes
through lush evergreen forests and hills before reaching Punjab. Here, it embraces the
Satluj River and finally enters the territory of Pakistan, covering a total length of
around 470 km. The river is the main drinking water source of the population living in
Kullu, Mandi and Kangra regions.

Briefing by Instructor
Skiing
Skiing is a way of traveling over snow, using skis strapped to one's feet.
In modern times it has been mostly an athletic activity. Skis are used in
conjunction with boots that connect to the ski with use of abinding.
Commonly, ski poles or "stocks"
are used to improve balance and
timing as well as for propulsion.
Skiing can be grouped into two
general categories: Nordic and
Alpine. Nordic skiing, the older of
the two disciplines, originated in
Scandinavia and uses free-heel
bindings that attach at the toes of
the skier's boots but not at the heels. Types of Nordic skiing include
cross-country, ski jumping and Telemark. Alpine skiing (more often
called "downhill skiing"), originated in the European Alps, and is
characterized by fixed-heel bindings that attach at both the toe and the
heel of the skier's boot. Trekking: They provide proper trekking
techniques and also train students so as to how to conduct themselves
while hiking or trekking.

Learning outcome – I learned how important it is to be together and maintain
unity in order to achieve what we desire. This trip gave me a lifetime experience
and shall be cherished for life.
Experience:
As we were moving to our trip to Manali we all were excited though it was our first trip. On
reaching to AVBIMAS we were allotted a room, bedsheet, & equipment’s that we have to
take to Solang. On next day we depart from Manali for Solang valley. On reaching we were
allotted our room, bedsheet, & ski equipments. I would really like to say services of room is
really worst. Though it was an army campus but really services of there are really worst.
But I would like to say that the instructors are really good & well enough. At the campus of
Manali is well enough than the campus of Solang. Water related problems we have face. But
during the course when we were in snow trek of ski the instructors were really teaching all
the techniques & guiding very well. They trainers were highly experienced. Though it was a
memorable trip as without any trouble adventure couldn’t be defines as adventure tourism.
The snow infects our foot so it must that your foot powder. Climatic conditions change
within a hour of time over there. We also saw a snowfall a beautiful soft snow everywhere.
The temperature at night steeps down to minus.
At last day of course we submit our ski equipments and then went for a trek of Anjani
Mahadev temple. And return next day to Manali and submit our equipments and finally
director ABVIMAS awarded to us by Medal in ceremony. And then next day depart from
Manali with beautiful memories.
Trek of Anjani Mahadev
Medal ceremony
CONCLUSION
I am glad to get this adventure training under ABVIMAS, and I am thankful to
my entire institute for giving me such an opportunity. It was as much a learning
trip as an enjoyable one. It’s good that such trips are a part of course in PIMG
that are very useful for students; it gives a better insight into the practical aspect
of the tourism industry. The duration for such trips should be longer so that
more activities can be included. Overall the trip was awesome; I experienced the
real adventure in these 7 days. It taught me discipline, punctuality and made me
more adaptive.
Thank you, my friends and teachers who accompanied me, in this beautiful trip
and
helped me bring out the best in me. I Have learned about skiing And its
equipment’s Required for it and The seven day adventure camp has given life
lessons and also given to explore Manali and connecting with local culture.

  • 14. Skiing Skiing is a way of traveling over snow, using skis strapped to one's feet. In modern times it has been mostly an athletic activity. Skis are used in conjunction with boots that connect to the ski with use of abinding. Commonly, ski poles or "stocks" are used to improve balance and timing as well as for propulsion. Skiing can be grouped into two general categories: Nordic and Alpine. Nordic skiing, the older of the two disciplines, originated in Scandinavia and uses free-heel bindings that attach at the toes of the skier's boots but not at the heels. Types of Nordic skiing include cross-country, ski jumping and Telemark. Alpine skiing (more often called "downhill skiing"), originated in the European Alps, and is characterized by fixed-heel bindings that attach at both the toe and the heel of the skier's boot. Trekking: They provide proper trekking techniques and also train students so as to how to conduct themselves while hiking or trekking.

  • 18. Experience: As we were moving to our trip to Manali we all were excited though it was our first trip. On reaching to AVBIMAS we were allotted a room, bedsheet, & equipment’s that we have to take to Solang. On next day we depart from Manali for Solang valley. On reaching we were allotted our room, bedsheet, & ski equipments. I would really like to say services of room is really worst. Though it was an army campus but really services of there are really worst. But I would like to say that the instructors are really good & well enough. At the campus of Manali is well enough than the campus of Solang. Water related problems we have face. But during the course when we were in snow trek of ski the instructors were really teaching all the techniques & guiding very well. They trainers were highly experienced. Though it was a memorable trip as without any trouble adventure couldn’t be defines as adventure tourism. The snow infects our foot so it must that your foot powder. Climatic conditions change within a hour of time over there. We also saw a snowfall a beautiful soft snow everywhere. The temperature at night steeps down to minus. At last day of course we submit our ski equipments and then went for a trek of Anjani Mahadev temple. And return next day to Manali and submit our equipments and finally director ABVIMAS awarded to us by Medal in ceremony. And then next day depart from Manali with beautiful memories.

  • 21. CONCLUSION I am glad to get this adventure training under ABVIMAS, and I am thankful to my entire institute for giving me such an opportunity. It was as much a learning trip as an enjoyable one. It’s good that such trips are a part of course in PIMG that are very useful for students; it gives a better insight into the practical aspect of the tourism industry. The duration for such trips should be longer so that more activities can be included. Overall the trip was awesome; I experienced the real adventure in these 7 days. It taught me discipline, punctuality and made me more adaptive. Thank you, my friends and teachers who accompanied me, in this beautiful trip and helped me bring out the best in me. I Have learned about skiing And its equipment’s Required for it and The seven day adventure camp has given life lessons and also given to explore Manali and connecting with local culture.
