purpose of pro bono service is to “promote justice and to
make justice equally accessible to all people,” a duty that
is carried out by the Harry L. Carrico Center for Pro Bono
Service.
Children are the most vulnerable population both inside
and outside of the courtroom. Recognizing that they
deserve to be heard and responsibly represented, the
University Of Richmond School Of Law maintains an
ongoing partnership with Court Appointed Special
Advocates (CASA) for Children of Central Virginia. As
volunteers, law students engage directly with the juvenile
court system and represent the best interests of children
until they are placed in permanent housing.

4.  Although a law degree is not a prerequisite
for volunteers, the unique skillset possessed
by law students is an invaluable asset in
stopping the cycle of child abuse and
placing victims in safe housing.
Established by Judge Dale Harris in 1989,
CASA of Central Virginia is a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit and is recognized by the National
Court Appointed Special Advocate
