2. About UHSA
The University of Health Sciences Antigua campus is in Dowhill, Antigua. UHSA's School of Medicine and
Macedonia School of Nursing both have a distinguished history of providing a vigorous education to
students of high academic potential since 1982.
UHSA has initiatives not found in many of the other schools in our region. Our curriculum is organ system
based and allows for an integrated approach to teaching and learning during the basic science years,
similar to most U.S. schools. This method of teaching allows for learning in small groups, independent
study and the early integration of clinical experiences.
UHSA is one of only a few medical schools in the Caribbean that has a Standardized Patient/Clinical skills
unit. UHSA students begin an exposure to standardized, trained patients from day one. Students also
participate in early clinical experiences on the island through the government health system of Antigua.
Also, UHSA operates a student involved clinic, The Free Clinic at English Harbour. At the Free Clinic,
students have an opportunity to serve the community while gaining valuable leadership and clinical
experience. UHSA students are also involved in research.
