Increasing Integrity and EU Citizen s Trust in Public...
REGIONAL POLICY PAPER #1 INCREASING INTEGRITY AND EU CITIZENS TRUST IN
PUBLIC PROCUREMENT OVERVIEW Public procurement systems across the European Union
(EU) need to be robust, transparent and open to public monitoring. Only then can governments,
bidders and contractors be held to account for how public money is spent, and corruption can be
prevented. Corruption siphons off public funds, obstructs the functioning of the single market, and
distorts fair competition. For these reasons, it is vital for the EU to ensure public procurements are
sound, transparent and accountable. Public procurement at the EU level is currently being
reviewed; the inclusion of strong anti corruption provisions is a way of increasing efficiency and

Problems appear to be most acute in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Italy, Romania and Slovakia.
8 The current revision of the EU legislation on public procurement 9 presents an opportunity for
European leaders to address these breakdowns and close the following integrity gaps. WEAK
LEGISLATIVE FRAMEWORKS Legislative loopholes as in the case of Romania allow for the
bypassing of procurement rules and raise the risk of corruption. For example, the Romanian
government has the right to invoke a state of emergency, which allows it to negotiate contracts
with only one single company. Allegations in other countries have also been raised about
preference being given to a single vendor by micro tailoring the tender criteria to match only that
company s profile. 10 Similar problems of legal gaps exist in the Czech Republic that has
permitted corruption to arise in public procurement. According to a survey of small and medium
sized Czech companies, three out of five managers believe that it is impossible to win public
contracts without resorting to bribery, a kickback or some other incentive . 11 The procurement
loopholes that exist in Europe vary and lead to low levels of transparency and accountability,
including limited access to information and public participation in the processes. Final public
procurement contracts are not published in a number of European countries,

Literature Review. Autism Overview. Autism Spectrum Disorder
Literature Review
Autism Overview Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a widely known disability that, as of 2012,
affects about 1 in 68 of children in the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
2016). The exact cause of the disability is unknown, however individuals with ASD exhibit some
common characteristics. Autism belongs to heterogeneous categories of developmental
disabilities where neurological disorders lead to deficits in a child s ability to communicate,
understand language, play, develop social skills, and relate to others (Rao Gagie, 2006, p. 26).
These deficits can range in varying degrees of severity, which is why the disability is considered to
be a spectrum. Students with autism are usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many students in high school lack vocational training that could increase their future success, and
many students with disabilities are in need of extra training or exploration to help them establish
these goals (Swank Huber, 2013). IDEA states that students with disabilities should be prepared for
further education, employment, and independent living (IDEA, 2004). Although this is stated in
the law, many students with disabilities are not getting a sufficient vocational education. Students
with disabilities are required to have a transition plan in place when they are in high school.
Transition planning is critical for all individuals, with or without disabilities, and this planning
should focus on layering the foundation and providing support for transition in all aspects of adult
life (Sitlington, 1996, p. 37). Teaching vocational skills are an essential part of this transition
planning.
Students are educated, but there is a separation between vocational and academic education.
Students are more prepared for post secondary education than they are for the workforce (Gebhardt,
Tretter, Schwab, Gasteiger Klicpera, 2012). Hazelkorn and Lombard (1994) state:
Secondary students with disabilities often are denied access to the broad continuum of vocational
education options because of the increased academic expectations of vocational courses, the
apprehension of

Cognitive Psychological Theory
COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY THEORY Overview Cognitive psychology is a modern school of
psychology that departs from the traditional view of psychology as primarily a function of
responses to stimuli and patterns of conditioned responses. It does not reject the behaviorist
school of psychology as much as it expands its scope to include elements of responses and
behavior that are not fully addressed by behaviorism (Gerrig Zimbardo, 2009). Cognitive
psychology appreciates the value of observational data and empirical or scientific analysis but
rejects the introspection oriented methods relied upon within Freudian psychodynamic
psychology. Generally, cognitive theory suggests that perception and corresponding external
behavioral responses are dictated by a much more complex set of variables than cause and effect
or the one dimensional focus of classical conditioning (Gerrig Zimbardo, 2009). It incorporates
internal states of mind as well as subjective variables such as social learning and belief, the
cumulative impact of previous experiences, individual desires and perspective, and personal
motivation. It also emphasizes the significance of differences in brain structure and function from
individual to individual as elements that contribute to the perceptions and responses of different
individuals to experiences that are objectively similar (Pinker, 2002). Rejection of the Blank Slate
Concept The behaviorist view of psychology is that the individual begins life as a

The Freedom Writers Diary By Teacher Erin Gruwell
Freedom Writers, a movie based on the book The Freedom Writers Diary by teacher Erin
Gruwell, is a dramatic movie written and directed by Richard LaGravenese starring Hilary Swank,
Scott Glenn, Imelda Staunton and Patrick Dempsey. Freedom writer s main purpose is to provide
quality lessons that could benefit viewers and deliver some of the insights on living a better life.
The whole story takes place at Woodrow Wilson Classical High School in the Eastside
neighborhood of Long Beach, California which implemented an integration program to host
students of different races and backgrounds. Choosing to be a teacher where classrooms are made

She put her personal life at risk and got a divorce, but on the other hand lighted the ways of
hopeless students who had no chance but to sink in the negative waves of racism and endless
fights. The movie Freedom Writers presents a sensitive case of students coming from low
socioeconomic status, and different backgrounds having to face being together in the same
classroom in a time where the Latinos hate the black and the black hates the white who hates
both the Latinos and the black and so on. In a time where everyone had to stand for their own , a
white teacher chose to be part of change, and to enhance her student s lives overcoming all racial
and identity problems, and the risk of getting shot every day. As a teacher, the mission wasn t as
smooth as it was supposed to be. If it weren t for her intelligence and patience, she couldn t have
done the work, and successfully reached her goal. In this world, where facing diverse learners
had become a normal thing, it is the school s role and the teacher s in specific to deal with
diversities, and deliver a quality education to all students. And when racism and identity play a
major role in society, both students and the teacher will be exposed to an extra load of pressure,
and more responsibility in the case of the teacher, to cleverly solve the issue with minimum risks

Impact Of The Asian Financial Crisis Of 1997 On The Region...
Examine the impact of the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 on the region s development
Since World war II, development has been the most important term used to describe economic,
social and political changes in what have come to be known as Third world countries (Zhang, 2003).
The Asian financial crisis of 1997 had a major impact on the regions development as it was the end
of the East Asian economic miracle, a time that showed staggering economic growth throughout the
Asia Pacific. However, despite evidence that the economic development has slowed down within
the region, it can be argued that the 1997 crisis encouraged intra regional co operation and
collaboration, developing intra regional trade and encouraged the creation of ASEAN ... Show more

Garran (1998) argues that most countries affected failed to set up acceptable regulations and
supervision that would have allowed capital markets to develop without risky imbalances. He states
that countries over borrowed, over invested and over reached themselves .
Although it can be argued that the entire region felt the effects of the crisis, some countries suffered
more than others. According to Barro (2001) the countries mainly affected include Indonesia, South
Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand, this is because between July 1997 to early 1998
these countries experienced currency depreciations of more than 50%. In these countries,
offshore nominal interest rates reached at least 25% at some point between June 1997 and
January 1998. Real per capita GDP fell by 16% in Indonesia, 12% in Thailand, 10% in Malaysia,
and 8% in South Korea, and 3% in the Philippines. He argues that China, Hong Kong, Japan,
Singapore and Taiwan were much less affected by the crisis as they experienced depreciations of
less than 25%, and nominal interest rates remained below 20%.
The crisis resulted in the set back of over 30 years of strong economic and social development in
the region, the loss of jobs caused riots, destruction and even death from poverty in the affected
countries. Henderson (2011)

Chaos and Literary Comparison Essay example
Chaos and Literary Comparison
Abstract: I will show how chaos is can be found in art, specifically in literature, and analyze John
Hawkes s Travesty to show the similarities between literature and chaos.
John Hawkes describes the artistic challenge as conceiving the inconceivable. In accordance with
that thought, Wallace Stevenssays, Imagination is the power that enables us to perceive the normal
in the abnormal. It is arguable that chaos, deterministic disorder, is both abnormal and
inconceivable to the untrained mind; even to the person accustomed to chaos, the imagination is
key to his/her perception of chaos. Therefore, chaos can be found not only in nature and scientific
studies, but also in art, specifically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He refutes the perception of life as a slow, undisturbed flow; he welcomes turbulence as a factor of
art and life in general. He focuses on the processes by which turbulence is obtained, and on the
moment when that turbulence reveals itself. He is interested in the instant when the ordinary flow
of molecules becomes random: the transition between invention and destruction, the calculable and
the inscrutable, the process of life and the stasis of death (Conte, 123). He is aware that chaos is an
undeniable part of his life which he can only comprehend through his imagination and, therefore,
through art (no matter how bizarre that art may appear to be).
The initial conditions in the story are infidelity, betrayal, and artistic temperament. The variables
produced by these initial conditions are Papa s driving skill, the empty road, and the time of night.
All of these variables are crucial; if one is changed in the slightest way, it alters Papa s original plan,
thereby taking away the underlying meaning of the art and transforming it into mere debris. These
variables exemplify the Butterfly effect and sensitive dependence upon initial conditions, concepts
that suggest that even a minor change in the initial circumstances of a system (here, the conditions
leading up to the crash) determine its outcome. If by some odd happenstance, Papa s

Obama And Castro Relationship Analysis
A New Relationship in the Works After Obama and Castro Meet in Cuba
On March 21, 2016, President Barack Obama delivered a joint press conference with Cuban
President Raul Castro at the Revolution Palace in Havana. Obama is the first United States
president to visit Cuba in nearly a century. Having it been the first official contact between their two
governments in an extraordinarily long time, the two engaged in awkwardly blunt exchanges
throughout the press conference. Both mentioned that they were committed to continuing on a path
to normalizing relations. Although this was mentioned, there was an underlying hostility between
the two as they criticized each other s countries throughout the press conference.
A reporter asked Castro about the dissidents his government has arrested and he replied by saying,
Give me a list of the political prisoners and I will release them immediately. Just mention the list.
What political prisoners? There was an uproar of human rights groups after this comment; however,
Castro tried to turn the human rights criticism to the United States. He stated that ... Show more

Elizabeth Bowen The Demon Lover
Some viewers see Elizabeth Bowen s The Demon Lover as a ghost story. Robert L. Calder essay
on The Demon Lover gives an explanation of the story: he sees it as an allegory representing a
death of World War I and has had an effect on people a second war in their life. As Kathleen
Drover came to the abandoned house, the narrator is quickly to remind that the dangerous
destructive war had taken place. Outside, she sees familiar street unused channel, an unfamiliar
peculiarity had slited up that are silent proof to the war driven her and her family from their
home (Bowen). As Kathleen is looking and examining through the house for some cracks in the
house, Mrs. Drover is reminded by the war that happened. Moving to the country they escaped
the troubles of the war, but as she returns to London she is reminded by the destructive power. In
this story World War II is the second war endured. Will her surroundings affect her? In A More
Sinister Troth: Elizabeth Bowens The Demon Lover, by Robert L. Calder the author says It is a
wartime document, then a diary entry of a woman s response to yet another war that Demon
Lover perhaps can most be understood (93). As Robert says, Mrs. Drover lost her fiancГ© in the
war the Great War, Kathleen has moved on with her life. She has gotten married and had children,
and her fiancГ© has become a lost memory. Surrounded by soldiers in uniform and the of war,

Essay on The Cuban Revolution
The time of the Cuban Revolution was a great deal of turmoil, not just in Cuba but in almost
every corner of the world. It was 1945, shortly after the end of World War Two, and the Cold War
was taking off between the United States and the Soviet Union. Cuba, in the middle of its own war,
was caught up in the international politics of the Cold War. The interaction between international
and domestic politics played a major role in the outcome of the revolution. The result of the
revolution left Fidel Castroin charge of Cuba. The Platt Amendment states that the United States

Their focus was national sovereignty, reform, economic growth, a redistribution of wealth, and
social justice(the cuban revolution p 62). Finally, in 1965, Cuba officially became communist with
the emergence of the Cuban Communist Party, with Fidel Castro as their leader. Castro s
involvement with the foreign and domestic politics during the early Cold War period greatly
influenced the outcome of the Cuban Revolution. Without the actions taken by foreign powers
like the United States and Russia, some events on the domestic front may have had very
different results. It is important to understand how every nation s foreign policies can influence
more than just one other nation, and this was especially true for Cuba. It was this mix and chain
of events which produced the communist Cuba that we are familiar with today. The most
popular of Fidel Castro s documents is La Historia Me Absolvera also known as History Will
Absolve Me. This was a speech given by Castro at his trial for leading an attack on the Moncada
Barracks. Castro s speech discussed many of his ideas and beliefs that justified his reasoning to
form his revolutionary movement against Fulgencio Batista. History Will Absolve Me, shows the
revolutionary ideologies of Castro and how he later revolts to power. Although, his speech was
about his thought on the revolutionary movement, it also was to show the foundation of his
Moncada attack and what he was trying to achieve. Castro mentions in

Research in Decision Making
TOPIC 1 DISCUSSION
Why research is considered essential in the decision making function of management.
Research may be defined as a systematic inquiry whose objective is to provide the information
that will allow managerial problems to be solved. It is also seen as an activity that is often
carried out by most people, knowingly or unknowingly in the course of their daily lives. It is a
systematic inquiry whose objective is to provide the information that will allow managerial
problems to be solved. It is another word for gathering information. The more information we

The research mechanism enables the organization to better understand and comprehend the market,
its customers and competitors. The organization knows exactly what their customers need and
desire, and takes the appropriate steps to deliver that to them. Also, the company can classify
customers on the basis of demographics, such as gender, age, income of the household and
educational levels. Once the company determines its customers primary demographic group, it
takes steps to service them better. Through research, competitors moves and strategies are
highlighted, and the company can then be proactive to preempt them.
Research helps the organization fix problems and cash in on the strengths. Research mitigates
business risks and can help increase demand and sales. Research can primarily be conducted to
gauge the customers perceptions on a specific product. Research is useful in understanding the
broad market and industry situation. Research arms you from wrong information and save time and
money, organization is able to decide on what is required and through this, management is able to
save on cost.
The company can understand what its customers actually want and can deliver that product to
them. When the company is planning to diversify its product range, it will know at the very outset,
through the research mechanism, whether or not there is a demand for such a product. When the

Idealism In Don Quixote
Don Quixote Final Paper
During the Spanish golden era, books about codes of chivalry and true knights errant were
extremely popular and expressed religious values. Religious devoutness has been used to establish
truth and fairness in societies. Don Quixote himself is symbolic of idealistic pursuits, he is not
only seen as a symbol of faith in ideals but always having faith in a religious nature of his own
rational world. In the novel Don Quixote, religion plays a major role in Don Quixote s life because
his religious morals and social codes are what drive him to prove that he is a true knight errant.

than those who did not have the same religious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, his techniques for achieving and accomplishing these ideals may be proven socially
wrong and law breaking, but his intentions are true.
To further this idea of Don Quixote not minding what people perceive him as, because of his
religious dogma is shown when Don Quixote confesses his love toward Dulcinea del Toboso. As
long as Don Quixote is driven by his religious convection, he will not mind what others think.
Don Quixote is very romantic when he expresses his universal truth to Dulcinea although, people
perceive him as unordinary and mad in nature. For what I want of Dulcinea del Toboso she is as
good as the greatest princess in the land. For not all those poets who praise ladies under names
which they choose so freely, really have such mistresses. I am quite satisfied. . . to imagine and
believe that the good Aldonza Lorenzo is so lovely and virtuous (Cervantes 418). This shows that
Don Quixote s universal love for Dulcinea is true because the actual Dulcinea is a farmer s
daughter but that does not matter to him as long as he imagines her as a princess in every way.
Thus, showing that he does not

The Drums Album Summertime
The Drums are an American indie pop band from Brooklyn, New York. When the group moved
from Kissimmee, Florida to New York, they immediately got the attention of the indie world when
their album Summertime was released.
The album Summertime is a collection of beach pop fantasy with tracks that are filled with
sentimental yearning that really sweeps over an individual. They became an irresistible and popular
band in the summer of 2009. The Summertime record has become the perfect upbeat and post punk
summer fling album to have.
The founding members of The Drums are Jonny Pierce and Jacob Graham who have been
friends since they were children. Several years after being friends they created a short lived
electro pop group called Goat Explosion. Afterwards Jonny Pierce developed the Elkland group
and Jacob Graham formed the Horse Shoes group.
When Elkland parted ways in May 2006 Jonny decided to stop creating music for a few years. In
2008 Jonny and Jacob met back up and created the group The Drums. At that time they hired
drummer Conner Hanwick and guitarist Adam Kessler. In October of 2009 their very first album
was released called Summertime. In September 2010 it was broadcasted that Adam Kessler had left
the band.
According to the remaining members it was devastating at first when Kessler left with no clear
circumstances. This in turn introduced Chris Stein on drums and Myles Matheny doing backup

HIV Treatments and Reducing Drug Resistance
Abstract
HIV is a retrovirus that will constantly attack human s immune system once an individual is
infected and will eventually develop to AIDS, often a deadly sexually transmitted disease.
Currently, there are different kinds of antiretroviral treatments available for patients who are tested

Tenochtitlan is the capital of the Aztec empire built on the shores of Lake Texcoco. Aztecs were
believed to be nomads who came from the Toltec tribe. They wandered into the valley of Mexico
around 1325 and started to form villages. They dug canals, drained lakes and converted them into
fertile fields. They also built the beautiful city of Tenochtitlan. The Aztecs were known for human
sacrifice, which was associated to religious rituals. They believed that their gods sacrificed their
own lives to sustain the earth. In return, human blood must be sacrificed to the sun, moon, earth,
and vegetation gods to provide them nourishment to keep the nature and cosmos in balance
(Benton DiYanni, pg. 325 326). The Aztecs arose as the leading force in central Mexicotaking the
region s city states under their power by the 15th century. They developed a sophisticated political,
social, commercial and religious organization. However, the Spaniards, led by the Spanish
conquistador Hernan Cortes defeated and conquered the Aztecs in 1521.
The Aztecs highly regarded songs and poetry. During their festivals, they held poetry contests and
presentations that included musicians, acrobats, and players. Music and dance were also important
parts of their rituals and ceremonies. Nezahualcoyotl was one of their famous poets. His poetry
depicted the culture and values of the Aztecs. One example was his poem called

Dual Language Program
I really enjoyed reading your post because you have a very different opinion than how I feel. You
brought up a lot of good questions reading a Dual Language program. I do agree with you when
you said that if you come to this country you should learn to speak English. I also agree with you
when you said that our schools are accommodating English LanguageLearners (ELL). However,
regarding Dual Language programs, I personally feel that these programs benefit both those who
are ELL and English speaking students.
A Dual Language program allows both students writing and oral proficiencies in both languages.
Those in these programs have better standardized testing scores in math and reading. Lastly, the

My daughter does not see the benefits of learning Spanish and does not take this as her foreign

communicating with others, either while traveling or here in the United States, but if you take
someone who only speaks English and someone who knows more than one language applying for
the same job, I personally feel the one who speaks more than one language will have a better
chance of getting that job. This is just how it is in today s society.
To answer a question about what would happen to teachers that did not speak the second language, I
feel that they will have to take another language as a course and could use it for their re
certification hours. If they did not do this, then I would think that they would be fired from their job
because they would not be qualified to teach their current position.
Do you find any benefits for having a Dual Language program? If so, what are they?

Labor Market in Singapore
Introduction
Since Singapore gained its independence in 1965, its economy had progressed due to
globalization, rapid technological advances and the rise of China and India. With these different
stages of development, Singapore s labor market had adapted itself by transforming from a labor
abundant and capital limited city into a labor deficient and capital rich country (Chia 2005).
Singapore is now a popular export manufacturing base, regional headquarter for foreign
multinational company and a financial centre (Chia 2005). The industrial structure has also
progressed from a labor intensive export manufacturing to a capital and technology intensive
manufacturing, which hence provided capabilities to compete globally not only for its ... Show more

With the demand for more educated workers, it in turn encouraged the returns to higher levels of
education, resulting an increase in the return to university education in 2004 as compared to 2001
(Yeo et al. 2007). Therefore the labor structure in Singapore had evolved into one having a more
skilled and multi lingual workforce as compared to the past.
Aging Population
Singapore has one of the fastest aging populations due to the lack of babies, this consequently
led to the slow down in the growth of Singapore s labor force. Recent research had also found
that Singaporean life expectancy had increase from 61 years old in 1957 to today average life
expectancy of 80 years old. In order to ensure that these senior citizens have enough savings for
their old age, the government in Singapore had encouraged them to stay employed and work
longer (Sprinter 2007). To achieve this, the government planed to legislate re employment for
older workers to work beyond 62 to 67 (Sprinter 2007). With the support from WDA in helping
companies to redesign jobs and give training for older workers, actions by Tripartite Committee in
recommending Employability of Older Workers and nevertheless the upcoming legislation and
incentives provided by the government, we will be expecting to see more older workers in the
workforce as compare to the past. The result of these efforts had been publicized by NTUC (2007),
which shows that the

Peter Hennessy s The Office Of The Prime Minister
The Office of the Prime Minister is what its holder chooses and is able to make of it. (3) The

content of Peter Hennessy s book, The Prime Minister. The author argues that once at Number 10.
Downing Street, the office holder can lead the government the way he or she wishes. Hennessy
adds that there has been a large expansion in the power of the Prime Minister since 1945. The
book primarily sheds light on 11 post World War II leaders and their own undertaking of the office.
The Prime Minister is probably the one book that anyone needs to read in order to achieve a
complete understanding of the British premiership. It takes into account all the possibilities and
limitations present in the job of being the Prime Minister. The book begins with emphasizing that ...

The Taliban emerged as a rebellious movement after the invasion of the soviet troupes in

During the wars between the Mujahedeen and the Soviets, about fifteen thousand soviet soldiers

Analysis Of Virtue In Meno By Plato
Virtue is something insurmountably perplexing but infinitely used within society. Although hard to
define, Virtue seems to be a type of knowledge that depicts our moral standards. After reading Meno
by Plato, I conclude that virtue can in fact, be taught. Through the Meno, Socrates converses with
Meno beginning to end on what Meno believes virtueis. Socrates admits that he knows that he does
not know what the definition is, but he knows the process and how to find out what it may be.
Through questioning and interrogation (elenchus), Socrates leads Meno and a slave boy through
the socratic process of doxa, aporia, and then anamnesis. Socrates explains, Then if the truth about
reality is always in our soul, the soul would be immortal so that you should always confidently try
to seek out and recollect? (86, b). Because of this recollection (anamnesis), Socrates concludes that
the soul is then immortal and is all in all, recollecting previous knowledgehidden deep within the
soul.
Unlike Socrates, I do not believe that that this kind of knowledge is recollected. I feel that
Socrates example with the slave boy does not prove immortality of the soul but rather, strains to
answer it. Socrates elaborates that our souls are eternal because as humans, we are constantly
seeking knowledge about nearly everything and that we do not know that everything . Seeking
knowledge gives our soul a purpose, but I believe that our soul was just born with the potential to
learn that

Obesity And The World Health Organization
Today, as values of living continue to boost, weight increase and obesity are posing a rising
threat to certain well beings in countries all over the world. Obesity, now confirmed as a
nationwide endemic by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is likely to get
worse and amplify over time. The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts there will be 2.3
billion overweight adults in the world by 2015 and more than 700 million of them will be obese
(Obesity: in Statistics, 2008, 2nd Statement). It is definite that most kids are inclined to eat junk
food, and it is certain that most kids will become overweight as adults. About 15% of children
and adolescents aged 6 to 19 years are overweight, which is an increase of 4% from the 1988
1994 NHANES study (Chatterjee, Blakely, Barton, 2005, p. 24). Statistics of obese persons in the
United States alone are also greater in certain cultural and ethnic minority groups, especially
African American and Hispanics. Between 1986 and 1998, incidences of being overweight
increased significantly among African American children by 21.5% and for Hispanic children by
21.8%. That is nearly almost Вј of the population! Among all low income children, the prevalence
of being overweight was found to be highest among Latino children by (12%) followed by Asian
Pacific Islander (9.6%), African American (7.8%) and Whites (7.1%) (Chatterjee, Blakely, Barton,

Explain The Roles And Differences Between Consumer And...
1.Differentiate between mechanized, semi automated, automated, and information directed
handling systems. The mechanized type handling system, is a combination through labor and
equipment handling that utilizes the help from facilities processing, receiving, and shipping.
Although a high percentage of overall cost is associated with this type of labor system. Also, with
having to use a high amount of human labor workers, there is more use of forklifts and carousels.
Where when using an automated system, there would be a cut in labor costs due to the use of
automated equipment that can accomplish the job that man power is being used to accomplish. A
lot of these costs can be pretty expensive up front, but in the long run they end up paying
themselves off. When a mix of both are used though, it s called semi automated. Which can in turn
help increase efficiency. But at the same time, using completely automated systems can help reduce
in any forms of error in sorting processes. Within semi automated systems, there is the final form of
information directed handling. This system uses information technology to help direct mechanized
or any automated equipment. 2.Explain the roles and differences between consumer and industrial
focused packaging. The roles and differences between consumer and industrial focused packaging
are pretty up to point. The consumer packaging is primarily focused on product and marketing

Government officials estimated that it would be unlikely that the cost of the bombing reach the
record $15 billion in losses from Hurricane Andrew. However, the destruction will by far exceed

bombing caused $1.1 billion dollars in insured losses. This includes $317 million in relocation
expenses, $318 million in lost business and lost labor, and $79 million in lost retail sales. The
bombing shaped up to be one of New York Citys most costly financial disruptions. Business at the
World Trade Center had come to a screeching stop. The bombing affected many businesses,
including banks, retail stores, hotels, restaurants etc. More than 350 businesses hoped that the
bombing would be covered by insurance. Some businesses are concerned that insurers will not
pay all their expenses leaving them to pay for it themselves. Insurance rates drastically increased
for businesses inside and outside of New York City. Stores have seen business drop by 50 to 90

The Legalization Of Physician Assisted Death
The idea of committing euthanasia and physician assisted suicide (PAS) had a historical root in the
nineteenth century and referred as skillful alleviation of suffering 1 in Latin transcripts. Recently
the theme of the legalization of physician assisted death (PAD) in Canada boosted in 2012. The
decision of the British Columbia Supreme Court in the case of Carter v. Canada(Attorney General)
was the threshold of the theme. It ruled that the Canadian Criminal Code 2 prohibition against PAD
was discriminatory. According to the decision, the section 241 of the Code abuses the section of 12
of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The adjudication is being finalized by the

In term of jurisprudence, assuming the legalization of euthanasia and PAD based on the court s
decision in Carter v. Canada has no legal ground. First of all, there is a new law only regarding
PAD, whereas there is nothing about euthanasia. Secondly, euthanasia and PAD are two different
legal terms. In brief, euthanasia means the deliberate act undertaken by one person with the
intention of ending the life of another person to relieve that person s suffering , according to the
Canadian Senate 1995 report 3. In PAS, a physician, at the request of a competent patient, prescribe
a lethal quantity of medication, intending that the patient will use the medicals to commit suicide 4.
Thirdly, according to section 241 of the Canadian Criminal Code, there is a punishment for a
doctor who assists a person to commit suicide. This sentencing revised through a decision from
the Supreme Court of Canada that declared it should discriminate. In fact, derogating section 241
of the Canadian Criminal Code regarding the prohibition of PAD is vastly different from
legalizing euthanasia or PAD. The Supreme Court of Canada in Carter v. Canada case provided:
...we should issue the following declaration: Section 241 and s.14 of the Criminal Code
unjustifiably infringe s.7 of the Charter and are no force or effect to the extent that they prohibit

Religious Conflict Of Dante s Inferno
Jessica Gay World Literature Dr. Schott 9 November 2014 Religious Conflict in Dante s Inferno
Critics Daniel Tompsett and Donald Winchester and literary scholar Nicole Rudick have argued
that Dante s Inferno is a dark and hopeless telling of how we are all relegated to sin and lack the
will or righteousness to turn from sin and temptation. Tompsett and Winchester state that, The
placement of living figures in each section was a judgment and a condemnation, albeit
subjective, on both history and the people he knew (Tompsett). They both agree that Dante is
painting a picture of the dredges of society and the torture that they must endure as a result of
their inability to turn from sin. They also quote scholar David H. Higgins to say that Dante
arguably believed he was writing a gospel to convert his recalcitrant age (Tompsett). Scholar and
critic Nicole Rudick confirms this portrayal of dismal hopelessness with her comment, Dante
created a rigid view of good and evil, showing no mercy for those who did not repent during their
lifetimes and sparing no one in his accounting of misdeeds, vice, immorality, and generally
inappropriate comportment (Rudick 29). It is my opinion that the aforementioned scholars and
critics are missing Dante s point. When I read the poem I am overcome with quite the opposite
view. I believe that a better way to interpret Dante s poem is to consider that he was asking each
of us to reflect on our waywardness and sin and to come to the

Annotation Of Langston Hughes Weary Blues
Langston Hughes the writer of this poem. He was born February 1, 1902, he died on May 22,
1967. He grew up in Joplin, Missouri. There are a few interesting things that caught my eye as I

poetry in Lincoln, he was working as a seaman at one point of time in his life, the poem Weary
Blues was his first book, he made his first novel in 1930, and last but not least he won a Harmon

stanza I found things within the lines such as in lines one, two, four, and five they all have ten
syllables. The poem does have a little bit of a rhyme but there is no actual set rhyme scheme.
The poem have a couple of repetition lines like, in the poem he said he did a lazy sway.... He did

The Building Of Building A Building
The building envelope is the building shell or enclosure that separates the interior of a building with
the outdoor environment. This physical separator serves as an important component to maintain a
comfortable and healthy indoor environment by transferring the air, water, heat, light and noise.
The components of an envelope typically include walls, fenestration, floors, roofand doors with
additional parts such as thermal insulation and shading devices. As discussed above, the climate
is an important factor when designing a building. A well designed envelope with high
performance should be accustomed to the local climate. Accordingly, there are arid climate
envelope, tropical climate envelope, cold envelope and mixed cold/hot climate envelope which
may be composed of components such as sheets and blocks. The building envelope have a big
influence on whole building s energy usage. An energy effective building envelope design saved
as much as 35% and 47% of total and peak cooling demands respectively. At the same time building
code requirements on envelopes have increased significantly. Although the codes and standards
used in local and state level of government varies in place, they all derivate from ASHRAE and
International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).
Walls are a major part of a building envelope and are expected to maintain a thermal and acoustic
comfort inside the building. The crucial performance factor of the wall is thermal resistance (R value

In the course of developing an Army leadership competency framework focused on the Future

Employees want information about what they are required to do (or confirmation of what they
think they are supposed to do) in their jobs or positions. The operative word here is do . They
typically do not want to know what they are supposed to be . This simple representation of
leadership requirements helps us establish a context for evaluating leadership competencies and
frameworks/models. Those that are stated only as traits, characteristics, or in attribute terms are, in
our estimation, less valuable than those that are stated in task, function, and behavioral terms.
However, models that address both aspects of leadership may prove to be more valuable to more
individuals.
The purpose in establishing competencies for leaders should be to better define what functions
leaders must perform to make themselves and others in their organizations effective. Many
competency definitions include reference to clusters of knowledges, skills, abilities, and traits that

Hughes And The Harlem Renaissance
Negro life is seizing its first chances for group expression and self determination. This quote
comes from a highly acclaimed critic and teacher Alain Locke. The Harlem Renaissance, or the
New Negro Movement, was a literary, artistic, and intellectual movement that kindled a new black
cultural identity in the 1920 s to the mid 1930s (History.com). Harlem was the Mecca for black
writers, musicians, poets, and scholars. The Harlem Renaissanceincluded visual arts, but excluded
jazz, even though it have similarity as a black art form. The combination of whites prejudice and
the exotic world of Harlem sought out and published black writers. Since much of the literature
focuses on realistic black life, conservative black s critics feared that... Show more content on

His mother moved to Michigan, and his father moved to Mexico to escape the discrimination the
South offered to African Americans. Hughes attended Columbia University in 1920, but only
completed one year. He worked various jobs as a merchant seaman, night club in Paris, and a
busboy in Washington D.C. Hughes also covered the Spanish American War and was part of the
American Communist party. In one of Hughes s essay titled, The Negro Artist and the Racial
Mountain, he outlined his philosophy on the Harlem Renaissance and saw the problems ahead of
black artists: One of the most promising of the young Negro Poet, meaning, I believe, I want to
write like a white poet, meaning subconsciously, I would like to be a white poet; meaning behind
that, I would like to be white. And I was sorry the young man said that, for no great poet has never
been afraid of being himself. (Shoomp.com). the quote itself sums up what African Americans
artists have to face during this time. Whites dominated the literary industry and black artists had a
chance to overcome the adversity, but knowing the consequences and timid to be themselves,
ultimately led to the Harlem Renaissance and the upcoming poet, Langston

Review Of The City Of Ladies
The Role of Stories in The City of Ladies Christine De Pizan s The City of Ladies is
acknowledged as one of the earliest feminist texts. The character of Lady Reason tells Christine
numerous stories about significant female rulers with the intention of helping Christine build the
City of Ladies. Lady Reason tells Christine various stories to expunge the propagated lies men
have insisted upon to maintain their patriarchy. Lady Reason also states that the stories will
serve as a foundation for the city walls; it will be the base of protection in the city. However, the
argument about the city s selective acceptance is brought into question because it appears to
accept the very principals Lady Reason is trying to prove wrong. This assumption is incorrect
because it does not take into account the possibility that some people would be denied entrance
because of past deeds, like committing crimes. The role of stories in The City of Ladies is
essential to the development and execution of the story, which brings to light modern day issues
with gendersocialization and inequality. Christine De Pizanutilizes herself as the main character in
the story of The City of Ladies. Not unlike the reality of her situation the character Christine is very
well read, and clearly an intellectual who values the pursuit of knowledge. However, she faces a
crisis of identity following a revelation that most philosophical and literary works condemn
womankind. She convinces herself that women must

The Minimum Pay For Labour Or Services

According to the Concise Law Dictionary, wage means the giving of a security for the
performance of anything. The money paid for labour or services usually according to specified
interval of work.
Wages, in the widest sense, mean any economic compensation paid by the employer, under some
contract, to his workers for the services rendered by them. Wages, therefore, include family
allowance, relief pay, financial support and other benefits. But, in the narrower sense, wages are
the price paid for the services of labor in the process of production and include only the
performance wages. They are composed of two parts the basic wage and other allowances.

CONCEPT OF MINIMUM, LIVING AND FAIR WAGE AS DEFINDED BY THE COMMITTEE
ON FAIR WAGES, 1948
Based on the needs of the workers, the employer s capacity to pay and the prevailing general
economic conditions of the Country, the Committee on Fair Wages, 1948 and 15th Session of
Indian Labour Conference (held in July, 1952) have propounded certain methods of wage payment

methods were described by the Committee on Fair Wages, 1948 which are as follows:
Minimum Wage:
A minimum wage is a compensation paid to the workers by the employer, irrespective of his
ability to pay, for the services rendered by them. The Committee on Fair Wages said that the
minimum wages should be such which is sufficient to cover the bare physical necessities of a
worker and his family. It must include some measures for education, medical facilities and other

Book Report in Micheal PollanВґs Book
INTRODUCTION________________________
What will you have for dinner? This question is harder than what it seems. Eating may seem to
be a simple act, a thing not to be worried about. This may be true for animals such as koala: if it
looks, smells, and tastes like eucalyptus, it is good. But it is not the case for humans. We have
such a large array of options that the act of choosing the food we are going to eat is indeed
difficult. On top of that, there is another problem. Unless you grow it yourself, you do not exactly
know where food comes from. In his book, Michael Pollan, by embarking the reader into a
discovery journey, explains both of this topics using his research and experience.
PART ONE: Industrial/Corn __________ In this first section of his book, Pollan begins by
examining the food production system from which most American meals derive. This industrial
food chain is largely based on corn. According to Pollan, we could say that we are walking corn
as most of industrial food traces its origins to corn whether it is fed to livestock or processed
into products such as corn syrup or ethanol. He also explains how this plant spread from Mexico
to the entire world by biological, cultural, and economic factors. To finish this part of the book,
he explains how wrong we are when we eat industrialized food or fast food and say that we eat a
variety of food. He supports this fact by using, as an example, a McDonald s meal, which items
contain a high

Example Of Dichotomy
Victor Hanson s article lacks supporting evidence and provides a narrow point of view to a
complex situation. When evaluating information and determining if it is logically compelling, the
premises must be acceptable, relevant, and sufficient. The article does not meet the required
premises because it lacks sufficient support and contains several logical fallacies.
The premise of the article is that the United States will continue to decline and potentially cease to
exist if they continue to reduce defense spending and increase social spending, which results in
more government dependent citizens. The premise is a slippery slope fallacy. A slippery slope
logical fallacy occurs when a predicted outcome is based on a specific chain reaction, but there is
not enough evidence to support the chain reaction will occur or produce the predicted outcome.
The article references four different historical civilizations that failed because their citizens grew
dependent on the government and because their government cut defense spending. The historical
civilizations mentioned lack similarities to the U.S. government s structure, current international
relations, military capability and economic capacity. The increase in government ... Show more

The article over simplifies the correlation and reasons behind budget management and its impacts
on security. Instead of making assumptions, it is imperative to identify the root cause or reason
behind a decision. The article uses Europe as an example and defines the European Union (EU) as
insolvent and defenseless. The EU contains some countries with financial issues and a multitude of
others with a wide range of defense and social budgets. The generalization without specific
supporting facts reduces the effectiveness of the

Silence
It is a beautiful September morning. The sky is blue and cloudless, although it feels like it
should rain. Hundreds of people gather in small, tight knit groups at Ground Zero, holding
tightly to the person beside them. Shoulders shake as they stand in the place where their loved
ones died; not a word is uttered. Silence. That s how they choose to remember 2,296 souls
(Plumer, 2013). Complete and utter silence. The void that is too often filled, the thing that is too
often forgotten. Today s society has been trained to avoid silence. In a world where our senses
are constantly assaulted by sound, silence has become awkward, uncomfortable, and sometimes,
even downright terrifying. We fill our world with sound, from the moment we wake up in the
morning to the moment we fall asleep at night. The loud, insistent beep of the alarm clock, the
ringing of cell phones, the slamming of doors, and the hum of the radio invade every sphere of
our lives. By taking a step back, and looking at the world from a different point of view, we will
see that silence is a powerful tool that transforms our lives. Our generation is no longer taught to
spend time contemplating who we are as individuals. Rather, our focused energy is on the
distractions that are so easily available to us. We look for every possible way to run from solitude
instead of turning inward and spending time alone with our own thoughts and emotions. Though it
is frequently overlooked, silence is an influential resource available

various methods in order to implement foreign policy unto her nation and the nations around her.
Her accomplishments in foreign policy not only caused drastic changes in her own country for her
own people, but also in surrounding countries and their people. The most impressive and life
altering achievement of Catherine the Great, was the way in which she intelligently and
manipulatively went about her way in seizing control over one third of Poland.
Catherine II first began her rule in the year 1762, with the help and advocacy of multiple allies,

expanding its borders even more than had been done so before. (Erikson 312) Meanwhile,
amongst the totality of European politics as a result of the help from the Empress and her
advisors, Russia was about to play a large and meaningful role in the new order. It was prime
time for Russia to advance herself territorially, therefore, a second annexation of Poland was
quickly ensured. (The first annexation of Poland occurred in 1772, courtesy of Germany, in an
attempt to prevent Austria from going to war against Prussia). In order to swiftly and smoothly
start absorbing the land of Poland, Catherine II joined Frederick II, as well as the Austrian co

able to collect lands upon lands, and over a million and a half new subjects. After winning miles of

Complex And Interesting Optical Properties Essay
IntroductionThe complex and interesting optical properties can be shown clearly on
Nanostructured metals the collective oscillations of the conduction electrons termed plasmons

light scattering and absorption and an enhancement of the local electromagnetic field. In 1989,
upon calculations, Neeves and Birnboim proposed that a composite spherical particle with a
dielectric core and a metallic shell could produce SPR modes with a much larger range of
wavelengths. The first nanoshells were made by Zhou et al. In the 1990?s. They used a Au2S
core surrounded by a gold shell. Variations of these shells made it possible to shift the standard
gold colloid plasmon resonance peak from ~520 nm up to ~900 was a limit however, of less

  • 2. Increasing Integrity and EU Citizen s Trust in Public... REGIONAL POLICY PAPER #1 INCREASING INTEGRITY AND EU CITIZENS TRUST IN PUBLIC PROCUREMENT OVERVIEW Public procurement systems across the European Union (EU) need to be robust, transparent and open to public monitoring. Only then can governments, bidders and contractors be held to account for how public money is spent, and corruption can be prevented. Corruption siphons off public funds, obstructs the functioning of the single market, and distorts fair competition. For these reasons, it is vital for the EU to ensure public procurements are sound, transparent and accountable. Public procurement at the EU level is currently being reviewed; the inclusion of strong anti corruption provisions is a way of increasing efficiency and creating the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Problems appear to be most acute in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Italy, Romania and Slovakia. 8 The current revision of the EU legislation on public procurement 9 presents an opportunity for European leaders to address these breakdowns and close the following integrity gaps. WEAK LEGISLATIVE FRAMEWORKS Legislative loopholes as in the case of Romania allow for the bypassing of procurement rules and raise the risk of corruption. For example, the Romanian government has the right to invoke a state of emergency, which allows it to negotiate contracts with only one single company. Allegations in other countries have also been raised about preference being given to a single vendor by micro tailoring the tender criteria to match only that company s profile. 10 Similar problems of legal gaps exist in the Czech Republic that has permitted corruption to arise in public procurement. According to a survey of small and medium sized Czech companies, three out of five managers believe that it is impossible to win public contracts without resorting to bribery, a kickback or some other incentive . 11 The procurement loopholes that exist in Europe vary and lead to low levels of transparency and accountability, including limited access to information and public participation in the processes. Final public procurement contracts are not published in a number of European countries, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Literature Review. Autism Overview. Autism Spectrum Disorder Literature Review Autism Overview Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a widely known disability that, as of 2012, affects about 1 in 68 of children in the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2016). The exact cause of the disability is unknown, however individuals with ASD exhibit some common characteristics. Autism belongs to heterogeneous categories of developmental disabilities where neurological disorders lead to deficits in a child s ability to communicate, understand language, play, develop social skills, and relate to others (Rao Gagie, 2006, p. 26). These deficits can range in varying degrees of severity, which is why the disability is considered to be a spectrum. Students with autism are usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many students in high school lack vocational training that could increase their future success, and many students with disabilities are in need of extra training or exploration to help them establish these goals (Swank Huber, 2013). IDEA states that students with disabilities should be prepared for further education, employment, and independent living (IDEA, 2004). Although this is stated in the law, many students with disabilities are not getting a sufficient vocational education. Students with disabilities are required to have a transition plan in place when they are in high school. Transition planning is critical for all individuals, with or without disabilities, and this planning should focus on layering the foundation and providing support for transition in all aspects of adult life (Sitlington, 1996, p. 37). Teaching vocational skills are an essential part of this transition planning. Students are educated, but there is a separation between vocational and academic education. Students are more prepared for post secondary education than they are for the workforce (Gebhardt, Tretter, Schwab, Gasteiger Klicpera, 2012). Hazelkorn and Lombard (1994) state: Secondary students with disabilities often are denied access to the broad continuum of vocational education options because of the increased academic expectations of vocational courses, the apprehension of ... • 4. Cognitive Psychological Theory COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY THEORY Overview Cognitive psychology is a modern school of psychology that departs from the traditional view of psychology as primarily a function of responses to stimuli and patterns of conditioned responses. It does not reject the behaviorist school of psychology as much as it expands its scope to include elements of responses and behavior that are not fully addressed by behaviorism (Gerrig Zimbardo, 2009). Cognitive psychology appreciates the value of observational data and empirical or scientific analysis but rejects the introspection oriented methods relied upon within Freudian psychodynamic psychology. Generally, cognitive theory suggests that perception and corresponding external behavioral responses are dictated by a much more complex set of variables than cause and effect or the one dimensional focus of classical conditioning (Gerrig Zimbardo, 2009). It incorporates internal states of mind as well as subjective variables such as social learning and belief, the cumulative impact of previous experiences, individual desires and perspective, and personal motivation. It also emphasizes the significance of differences in brain structure and function from individual to individual as elements that contribute to the perceptions and responses of different individuals to experiences that are objectively similar (Pinker, 2002). Rejection of the Blank Slate Concept The behaviorist view of psychology is that the individual begins life as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examine the impact of the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 on the region s development Since World war II, development has been the most important term used to describe economic, social and political changes in what have come to be known as Third world countries (Zhang, 2003). The Asian financial crisis of 1997 had a major impact on the regions development as it was the end of the East Asian economic miracle, a time that showed staggering economic growth throughout the Asia Pacific. However, despite evidence that the economic development has slowed down within the region, it can be argued that the 1997 crisis encouraged intra regional co operation and collaboration, developing intra regional trade and encouraged the creation of ASEAN ... Garran (1998) argues that most countries affected failed to set up acceptable regulations and supervision that would have allowed capital markets to develop without risky imbalances. He states that countries over borrowed, over invested and over reached themselves . Although it can be argued that the entire region felt the effects of the crisis, some countries suffered more than others. According to Barro (2001) the countries mainly affected include Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand, this is because between July 1997 to early 1998 these countries experienced currency depreciations of more than 50%. In these countries, offshore nominal interest rates reached at least 25% at some point between June 1997 and January 1998. Real per capita GDP fell by 16% in Indonesia, 12% in Thailand, 10% in Malaysia, and 8% in South Korea, and 3% in the Philippines. He argues that China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan were much less affected by the crisis as they experienced depreciations of less than 25%, and nominal interest rates remained below 20%. The crisis resulted in the set back of over 30 years of strong economic and social development in the region, the loss of jobs caused riots, destruction and even death from poverty in the affected countries. Chaos and Literary Comparison Essay example Chaos and Literary Comparison Abstract: I will show how chaos is can be found in art, specifically in literature, and analyze John Hawkes s Travesty to show the similarities between literature and chaos. John Hawkes describes the artistic challenge as conceiving the inconceivable. In accordance with that thought, Wallace Stevenssays, Imagination is the power that enables us to perceive the normal in the abnormal. It is arguable that chaos, deterministic disorder, is both abnormal and inconceivable to the untrained mind; even to the person accustomed to chaos, the imagination is key to his/her perception of chaos. Therefore, chaos can be found not only in nature and scientific studies, but also in art, specifically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He refutes the perception of life as a slow, undisturbed flow; he welcomes turbulence as a factor of art and life in general. He focuses on the processes by which turbulence is obtained, and on the moment when that turbulence reveals itself. He is interested in the instant when the ordinary flow of molecules becomes random: the transition between invention and destruction, the calculable and the inscrutable, the process of life and the stasis of death (Conte, 123). He is aware that chaos is an undeniable part of his life which he can only comprehend through his imagination and, therefore, through art (no matter how bizarre that art may appear to be). The initial conditions in the story are infidelity, betrayal, and artistic temperament. The variables produced by these initial conditions are Papa s driving skill, the empty road, and the time of night. All of these variables are crucial; if one is changed in the slightest way, it alters Papa s original plan, thereby taking away the underlying meaning of the art and transforming it into mere debris. These variables exemplify the Butterfly effect and sensitive dependence upon initial conditions, concepts that suggest that even a minor change in the initial circumstances of a system (here, the conditions leading up to the crash) determine its outcome. • 12. Obama And Castro Relationship Analysis A New Relationship in the Works After Obama and Castro Meet in Cuba On March 21, 2016, President Barack Obama delivered a joint press conference with Cuban President Raul Castro at the Revolution Palace in Havana. Obama is the first United States president to visit Cuba in nearly a century. Having it been the first official contact between their two governments in an extraordinarily long time, the two engaged in awkwardly blunt exchanges throughout the press conference. Both mentioned that they were committed to continuing on a path to normalizing relations. Although this was mentioned, there was an underlying hostility between the two as they criticized each other s countries throughout the press conference. A reporter asked Castro about the dissidents his government has arrested and he replied by saying, Give me a list of the political prisoners and I will release them immediately. It was 1945, shortly after the end of World War Two, and the Cold War was taking off between the United States and the Soviet Union. Although hard to define, Virtue seems to be a type of knowledge that depicts our moral standards. After reading Meno by Plato, I conclude that virtue can in fact, be taught. Through the Meno, Socrates converses with Meno beginning to end on what Meno believes virtueis. Socrates admits that he knows that he does not know what the definition is, but he knows the process and how to find out what it may be. Through questioning and interrogation (elenchus), Socrates leads Meno and a slave boy through the socratic process of doxa, aporia, and then anamnesis. Socrates explains, Then if the truth about reality is always in our soul, the soul would be immortal so that you should always confidently try to seek out and recollect? (86, b). Because of this recollection (anamnesis), Socrates concludes that the soul is then immortal and is all in all, recollecting previous knowledgehidden deep within the soul. Unlike Socrates, I do not believe that that this kind of knowledge is recollected. I feel that Socrates example with the slave boy does not prove immortality of the soul but rather, strains to answer it. Torres had to lay off 21 of his employees. I had 28 employees, and I m working with about 7. They keep calling to see if they should come in, but I ve got nothing for them to do, says Torres. Like Torres, many businesses are anxious about when they will return to normal. The New York Vista Hotel that sits above the site of the explosion, which is now vacant, is losing $150,000 to $250,000 a day. • 33. The Legalization Of Physician Assisted Death The idea of committing euthanasia and physician assisted suicide (PAS) had a historical root in the nineteenth century and referred as skillful alleviation of suffering 1 in Latin transcripts. Recently the theme of the legalization of physician assisted death (PAD) in Canada boosted in 2012. The decision of the British Columbia Supreme Court in the case of Carter v. Canada(Attorney General) was the threshold of the theme. It ruled that the Canadian Criminal Code 2 prohibition against PAD was discriminatory. According to the decision, the section 241 of the Code abuses the section of 12 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The adjudication is being finalized by the Supreme Court of Canada in 2015 by granting a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In term of jurisprudence, assuming the legalization of euthanasia and PAD based on the court s decision in Carter v. Canada has no legal ground. First of all, there is a new law only regarding PAD, whereas there is nothing about euthanasia. Secondly, euthanasia and PAD are two different legal terms. In brief, euthanasia means the deliberate act undertaken by one person with the intention of ending the life of another person to relieve that person s suffering , according to the Canadian Senate 1995 report 3. In PAS, a physician, at the request of a competent patient, prescribe a lethal quantity of medication, intending that the patient will use the medicals to commit suicide 4. Thirdly, according to section 241 of the Canadian Criminal Code, there is a punishment for a doctor who assists a person to commit suicide. This sentencing revised through a decision from the Supreme Court of Canada that declared it should discriminate. In fact, derogating section 241 of the Canadian Criminal Code regarding the prohibition of PAD is vastly different from legalizing euthanasia or PAD. The Supreme Court of Canada in Carter v. Canada case provided: ...we should issue the following declaration: Section 241 and s.14 of the Criminal Code unjustifiably infringe s.7 of the Charter and are no force or effect to the extent that they prohibit physician assisted death for a competent adult person who (1) ... • 34. Religious Conflict Of Dante s Inferno Jessica Gay World Literature Dr. Schott 9 November 2014 Religious Conflict in Dante s Inferno Critics Daniel Tompsett and Donald Winchester and literary scholar Nicole Rudick have argued that Dante s Inferno is a dark and hopeless telling of how we are all relegated to sin and lack the will or righteousness to turn from sin and temptation. Tompsett and Winchester state that, The placement of living figures in each section was a judgment and a condemnation, albeit subjective, on both history and the people he knew (Tompsett). They both agree that Dante is painting a picture of the dredges of society and the torture that they must endure as a result of their inability to turn from sin. They also quote scholar David H. Higgins to say that Dante arguably believed he was writing a gospel to convert his recalcitrant age (Tompsett). Scholar and critic Nicole Rudick confirms this portrayal of dismal hopelessness with her comment, Dante created a rigid view of good and evil, showing no mercy for those who did not repent during their lifetimes and sparing no one in his accounting of misdeeds, vice, immorality, and generally inappropriate comportment (Rudick 29). It is my opinion that the aforementioned scholars and critics are missing Dante s point. When I read the poem I am overcome with quite the opposite view. I believe that a better way to interpret Dante s poem is to consider that he was asking each of us to reflect on our waywardness and sin and to come to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The poem Weary Blues was published by him in 1926. Now here we go with the poem Weary Blues. It only has one staza, that s it just one stanza. Since its only one stanza I found things within the lines such as in lines one, two, four, and five they all have ten syllables. The poem does have a little bit of a rhyme but there is no actual set rhyme scheme. The poem have a couple of repetition lines like, in the poem he said he did a lazy sway.... He did a lazy sway..... which was showing that the man was showing a type of interest in the music that was playing. Those that are stated only as traits, characteristics, or in attribute terms are, in our estimation, less valuable than those that are stated in task, function, and behavioral terms. However, models that address both aspects of leadership may prove to be more valuable to more individuals. The purpose in establishing competencies for leaders should be to better define what functions leaders must perform to make themselves and others in their organizations effective. Many competency definitions include reference to clusters of knowledges, skills, abilities, and traits that lead to successful performance (Newsome, Catano, Day, 2003). Yet competency labels are typically expressed in either process or functional terms. This can lead to confusion as to what competencies actually represent for leadership and organizations. • 41. Review Of The City Of Ladies The Role of Stories in The City of Ladies Christine De Pizan s The City of Ladies is acknowledged as one of the earliest feminist texts. The character of Lady Reason tells Christine numerous stories about significant female rulers with the intention of helping Christine build the City of Ladies. Lady Reason tells Christine various stories to expunge the propagated lies men have insisted upon to maintain their patriarchy. Lady Reason also states that the stories will serve as a foundation for the city walls; it will be the base of protection in the city. However, the argument about the city s selective acceptance is brought into question because it appears to accept the very principals Lady Reason is trying to prove wrong. This assumption is incorrect because it does not take into account the possibility that some people would be denied entrance because of past deeds, like committing crimes. The role of stories in The City of Ladies is essential to the development and execution of the story, which brings to light modern day issues with gendersocialization and inequality. Christine De Pizanutilizes herself as the main character in the story of The City of Ladies. • 43. Book Report in Micheal PollanВґs Book INTRODUCTION________________________ What will you have for dinner? This question is harder than what it seems. Eating may seem to be a simple act, a thing not to be worried about. This may be true for animals such as koala: if it looks, smells, and tastes like eucalyptus, it is good. But it is not the case for humans. We have such a large array of options that the act of choosing the food we are going to eat is indeed difficult. On top of that, there is another problem. Unless you grow it yourself, you do not exactly know where food comes from. In his book, Michael Pollan, by embarking the reader into a discovery journey, explains both of this topics using his research and experience. PART ONE: Industrial/Corn __________ In this first section of his book, Pollan begins by examining the food production system from which most American meals derive. This industrial food chain is largely based on corn. According to Pollan, we could say that we are walking corn as most of industrial food traces its origins to corn whether it is fed to livestock or processed into products such as corn syrup or ethanol. He also explains how this plant spread from Mexico to the entire world by biological, cultural, and economic factors. He supports this fact by using, as an example, a McDonald s meal, which items contain a high ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Catherine II was finally able to focus not only on the welfare of her country, but also on expanding its borders even more than had been done so before. (Erikson 312) Meanwhile, amongst the totality of European politics as a result of the help from the Empress and her advisors, Russia was about to play a large and meaningful role in the new order. It was prime time for Russia to advance herself territorially, therefore, a second annexation of Poland was quickly ensured. (The first annexation of Poland occurred in 1772, courtesy of Germany, in an attempt to prevent Austria from going to war against Prussia). In order to swiftly and smoothly start absorbing the land of Poland, Catherine II joined Frederick II, as well as the Austrian co ruler Joseph II, in dividing roughly one third of the vast kingdom between themselves. Russia was able to collect lands upon lands, and over a million and a half new subjects. After winning miles of land, Russia seemed almost invincible, especially in comparison to Poland, who was practically in a state ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Complex And Interesting Optical Properties Essay IntroductionThe complex and interesting optical properties can be shown clearly on Nanostructured metals the collective oscillations of the conduction electrons termed plasmons lead to most striking phenomenon encountered in these structures are resonances . Plasmon modes number of geometries and in various metals ? most importantly in noble metals such as gold, copper and silver. Under certain circumstances are excited by light, which leads to strong light scattering and absorption and an enhancement of the local electromagnetic field. In 1989, upon calculations, Neeves and Birnboim proposed that a composite spherical particle with a dielectric core and a metallic shell could produce SPR modes with a much larger range of wavelengths. The first nanoshells were made by Zhou et al. In the 1990?s. They used a Au2S core surrounded by a gold shell. Variations of these shells made it possible to shift the standard gold colloid plasmon resonance peak from ~520 nm up to ~900 was a limit however, of less than 40 nm on the size of nanoshell that they could achieve due to the chemistry of their synthesis reactions. process also produced large amounts of gold colloid as a secondary product which gave an additional absorption peak at ~520 nm. Halas and synthesized a new type of gold nanoshell that overcame many of the limitations of the Au2S core type nanoshell. The new method replaced the Au2S core with a silica core and made it possible to exert much greater control over the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
