 HEALTH: Is the state of physical and mental well-

being.
 ILLNESS: Is the opposite of health.
 SYMPTOMS: Like coughs,pain or fever, tell us that
our bodies are ill.
HEALTHY HABITS
To stay well, we must have healthy habits.
We must:
 Sleep 8 or 9 hours every night and rest when we are
tired.
 Eat a balanced diet.
 Eat five meals a day and always eat breakfast.
 Wash our hands before meals and have a shower
every day.
 Breathe fresh air and avoid places with smoke.
TYPES OF ILLNESS
An illness can be non-infectious or infectious:
 Non-infectious illnesses: Have different
causses.Injuries or poor diet can make us ill.
 Infectious illnesses: Are causses by harmful
bacteria or viruses.They can be contagious or
non- contagious.

Bacteria are unicellular micro-organisms.
There are two types:
 Beneficial bacteria: Like the one used in making

illnesses.They can be unicellular or multicellular.

A virus is not a micro-organisms. It causes infections
illnesses.
It is not a living-thing but it needs cells to carry out
its life processes.
Viruses cause many illnesses such as flu, measles,
herpes and AIDS.
PREVENTING INFECTIOUS
Pathogenic micro-organisms can enter our bodies
in differents ways.
 Through the respiratory system.
 Through the digestive system.
 Through the wounds and cuts.
HOW CAN WE PREVENT INFECTIONS?
 Desinfec wounds.
 Wash your hands before eating .
 Wash uncooked food.
 Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze.

 Do not share eating utensils.
VACCINES
Vaccines can prevent some illnesses caused by bacteria
or viruses.
Vaccines introduce into our bodies the micro-organism
or virus that is making us ill.
The body reacts to the virus and produces substances
to destroy it
HOW DO WE TREAT INFECTIONS?
When viruses or micro-organisms enter in our bodies
and cause an infections, doctors prescribe different
treatments.
 Infections caused by bacteriaare trated by antibiotics.
 Infections caused by fungi are trated by anti-fungal.
 Infections caused by viruses are treated with
medicines that help to reduce symptoms
