- The Glorious Revolution of 1688-1689 saw King James II flee and William and Mary invited to rule, establishing Parliament's supremacy over the monarchy in the Bill of Rights of 1689.

At the bottom were serfs who were bound to the land and provided labor but had little freedom. Overall, feudalism established hierarchies of obligation and service to maintain order in the unstable early Middle Ages following Rome's decline.

Buddhism originated in India with Siddhartha Gautama, a prince who abandoned his luxurious life at age 29 to seek enlightenment. After years of meditation, he achieved nirvana and became known as the Buddha. The Buddha taught that desire is the fundamental cause of all suffering, and that the path to eliminating suffering is through following the Four Noble Truths and Eightfold Path to achieve nirvana. The essence of Buddhism is the "middle way of wisdom and compassion" as shown through the 3 jewels of Buddha, the teachings of Dharma, and the community of Sangha.
