Typhoon Yolanda, one of the strongest typhoons in history, made landfall in the Philippines with winds over 200 miles per hour, killing over 10,000 people, especially in the hard-hit province of Leyte. The storm caused widespread destruction, leaving many cities completely destroyed without power, communications, or transportation. International aid began arriving to help overwhelmed local authorities struggling to assist the millions of victims amid blocked roads and runways.
