Typhoon Haiyan, known as Yolanda in the Philippines, made landfall as a category 5 storm on November 8, 2013. It affected primarily Leyte Province, with winds over 200 mph reported in parts of Bohol. The typhoon caused over 10,000 deaths, with more than half in Leyte, and forced over 3,800 people to evacuate. Critical infrastructure was destroyed, leaving many cities completely isolated without power, communications, or transportation. International partners provided extensive relief efforts, with the US sending $20 million and military aid while the EU and Japan contributed $10 million each.
