 It is a style of computing
that divides work into
individual, indivisible
operation that are called
transactions.
 It has three functional areas
a. System run-time
b. System administration
c. Application development
 Transaction Processing Systems ( TPS) are used within
many companies to provide support and organization in
the processing of large amounts of paperwork.
 These systems are used when producing or recording
things like pay checks, invoices, student tuition bills and
payment reminders.
 A TPS would most likely be found in a business’s
accounting or billing department.
 Automated Teller Machine
(ATM)
 Airline Reservation Systems
 Any online ticketing system
like TicketMaster
 It is an information system which is computer based that
collects, processes, stores and transmits electronic
messages.
 Some applications used in office automation systems are
word processing and document imaging calendar.
 Other uses of this system are information storage, data
exchange and data management.
 It can be found in almost all
automated companies.
 Payroll system
 Knowledge workers perform three key roles that are
critical to the organization and to the managers who
work within the organization.
 The three roles are:
- keeping the organization current in knowledge
- serving as internal consultants
- acting as change agents
 They are being used by knowledge workers that are
mostly engineers, designers, factory managers,
architects and etc.
 Computer-aided design (CAD) systems
 Computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) systems
 Virtual reality systems
 Investment workstations
 It is a computer-based information system that supports
business or organizational decision-making activities.
 It serves the management, operations and planning
levels of an organization and help to make decisions,
which may be rapidly changing and not easily specified
in advance.
 It compiles useful information from a combination of
raw data, documents and personal knowledge to identify
and solve problems and make decisions.
 It can be used by all companies since every company
undergoes decision-making practically everyday.
 Decision Support Systems (DSS) for Education
- School Match
- Official MBA Guide
 DSS for Financial Decisions
- Financenter
- Prudential Securities
- BANKRATE
 It facilitates and supports senior executive information
and decision-making needs.
 It provides easy access to internal and external
information relevant to organizational goals.
 It transforms enterprise data into quickly accessible and
executive-level reports, such as those used by billing,
accounting and staffing departments.
 Executive Support Systems are intended to be used by
the senior managers directly to provide support to non-
programmed decisions in strategic management.
 Cambridge Systematics- it is a system combined with the
investment plan in the Ministry of Transportation in
Canada.
 It is a class of electronic meeting system.
 It is a collaboration technology designed to support
meetings and group work.
 These type of systems are used to support customized
projects requiring group work, input to a group and
various types of meeting protocols.
 These kind of systems are being used by companies or
people who are comfortable or open in resolving
problems collaboratively with the help of electronic
support.
 Group Decision Room (GDR)- it is a meeting
environment in which electronic meeting is used to help
groups address complex problems collaboratively.
