A telescopic whistle-stop tour of Twitter: what it is, how it works, what's new, how it fits in with current trends, who's using it for what and why does it matter.
Presented at the Revolution Forum at the Oxford Belfry in November 2009.
1) Twitter has grown rapidly since its launch in 2006, reaching 5.9 million unique visitors by January 2009 according to web analytics firm Compete.com.
2) Twitter allows users to post short messages called Tweets that are 140 characters or less. Users can follow other users and repost or comment on their Tweets.
3) During breaking news events like terrorist attacks in Mumbai, Twitter saw a surge of activity with 80 tweets per second being posted with information, photos, and commentary on the situation.
Presentation I did for ProductCamp Utah on what it means to be a product manager at a startup. It can be summarized by saying it is a scientific endeavor.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive functioning. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help boost feelings of calmness, happiness and focus.
Material desenvolvido para o curso de Inglês para Turismo do Centro de Idiomas da Prefeitura Municipal de Búzios pelas professoras Simone Pepe, Francidéa Freitas e Luciana Viter.
This document discusses frequency adverbs and how often they are used. It provides examples of common frequency adverbs like always, usually, often, sometimes, hardly ever, almost never, and never. It explains that frequency adverbs state how often an action occurs, answering the question "how often." It also discusses the grammatical structure of frequency adverbs, noting that they come before the main verb of a sentence, except when the main verb is a form of "to be," in which case the adverb comes after "to be."

It discusses the deployment of the Project54 system including over 1,000 vehicles equipped with in-vehicle systems across more than 180 agencies in New Hampshire. It also discusses the communications infrastructure supporting the system and expanding use among local agencies. Development plans are outlined including remote databases accessed via cellular and Wi-Fi, handheld devices with barcode scanners, and pilot deployments of new technologies like voice navigation and Project 25 radio systems.
Intro to node.js - Ran Mizrahi (28/8/14)Ran Mizrahi
This document provides an introduction to Node.js, including what it is, how it works, and some common frameworks and tools used with Node.js. Node.js is a JavaScript runtime built on Chrome's V8 JavaScript engine that uses an event-driven, non-blocking I/O model to handle requests. It allows for easy development of scalable network applications. The document discusses Node.js' event loop architecture, non-blocking I/O, and provides examples of using Express, Socket.IO, Mongoose and testing with Mocha/Chai.
The document provides information about forming and using the present perfect tense in English. It discusses the form of the present perfect, which is "have/has" plus the past participle. It provides examples of regular and irregular past participles. It also discusses three main uses of the present perfect: to describe recent events without a specific time, to express personal experiences without a definite time, and to express actions that started in the past and continue to the present.
Both The Detroit News and Free Press will offer limited home delivery and "express" editions with "e-editions" in response to declining print ad revenue. No cuts to editorial staff are planned. To reduce costs, the papers will cut home delivery and paper size while maintaining staff by combining newsrooms. It is uncertain if these changes will be successful as most loyal readers are older and some may not access alternative sources. News media companies need to reevaluate their role from prime news source to social influencer.

The document discusses several emerging trends in human resource management, including:
1) The growing importance of core HR professionals and their competitive advantage through 2030.
2) New techniques, mechanisms, and systems that provide unlimited scope for HR development.
3) Increased cultural diversification, 24/7 work patterns, and multi-faceted negotiations through mergers and partnerships.
4) Expected gaps in business practices globally and a need for training, career development, and business process reengineering.
This document summarizes a study that examined how using a personal navigation device (PND) with a visual map display influences driving performance compared to using a voice-only PND. The study found that drivers using a visual PND spent less time looking at the road and had greater variances in lane position, steering wheel angle, and velocity. Specifically, decreases in the percentage of time drivers spent looking at the road were correlated with increases in driving performance variances. The conclusion is that visual PND displays that take drivers' attention away from the road can negatively impact driving performance.

Building connected cultures. Why, what & how.Jenni Lloyd
This document discusses building a connected culture within an organization. It describes how the changing environment requires organizations to be more adaptable and responsive. A connected culture is defined as one where all teams work collaboratively every day to achieve shared goals. The document then provides a case study of a large transportation company that mapped its journey to becoming more connected by gathering feedback from employees on their current level of awareness, engagement, empowerment and other dimensions of a connected culture.

This document outlines a presentation on customer experience evolution. It discusses how the current business environment is volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA). It then presents a case study of how Pan Macmillan publishing put readers at the heart of their business to drive innovation, collaboration and customer focus. Key takeaways are that to change market impact an organization must change itself, customers should be understood as people rather than just data, and that collaboration across an organization is important.
This document summarizes a presentation given at the Chief Strategy Officer Summit in London in April 2014. The presentation discusses how the business environment has become increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) and that the hierarchies of the past cannot keep up with today's speed of change. It promotes three new approaches for companies: being purposeful by harnessing collective intelligence around a shared vision; being participative through cross-department collaboration; and being more human by overcoming barriers to change through growth mindsets. Attendees are encouraged to reflect on how clear they are about their organizational purpose, how to better tap collective intelligence to solve problems, and how to help individuals change behaviors to transform companies.

Smash-ability - supporting your brand in the widgetsphere / Jenni Lloyd / Oct 08Jenni Lloyd
This document discusses how brands need to design for a fragmented online world where consumers are interacting across multiple platforms. It argues that brands need to be "smashable" by being recognizable even if only parts of the branding, like colors or experiences, remain. It provides examples of brands that compensate for the limitations of the online world through their use of colors, fonts, images and other elements to leave strong impressions on users' minds. The document encourages conducting an audit to ensure a brand would still be identifiable if encountered piece by piece online.
Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

HCL Notes and Domino License Cost Reduction in the World of DLAUpanagenda
Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-and-domino-license-cost-reduction-in-the-world-of-dlau/
The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Don’t worry, we can help with all of this!
We’ll show you how to fix common misconfigurations that cause higher-than-expected user counts, and how to identify accounts which you can deactivate to save money. There are also frequent patterns that can cause unnecessary cost, like using a person document instead of a mail-in for shared mailboxes. We’ll provide examples and solutions for those as well. And naturally we’ll explain the new licensing model.
Join HCL Ambassador Marc Thomas in this webinar with a special guest appearance from Franz Walder. It will give you the tools and know-how to stay on top of what is going on with Domino licensing. You will be able lower your cost through an optimized configuration and keep it low going forward.
These topics will be covered
- Reducing license cost by finding and fixing misconfigurations and superfluous accounts
- How do CCB and CCX licenses really work?
- Understanding the DLAU tool and how to best utilize it
- Tips for common problem areas, like team mailboxes, functional/test users, etc
- Practical examples and best practices to implement right away

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
