Today’s students live in an interconnected, diverse and rapidly changing world. In this complex environment, a student’s ability to understand the world and appreciate the multiple different perspectives they are likely to encounter is key to their success.
In 2018, the OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) conducted its first evaluation of students’ capacity to live in an interconnected world. The assessment focused on students’ knowledge of issues of local and global significance, including public health, economic and environmental issues, as well as their intercultural knowledge, skills and attitudes. The results of this assessment – PISA 2018 Volume VI – will be launched on 22 October.

There is a growing sense of urgency to adopt Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, the internet of things, and data analytics in education, This interactive presentation explores how the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) can educate member nations in preparing for and achieving sustainable development in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The discussion begins with a review of emerging 4IR technologies before considering the long-term benefits and challenges of using AI and machine learning to provide services and education to Commonwealth Citizens. The presentation will also offer examples of how other sectors are using 4IR technologies to provide service to their users and members. Results from a research project that incorporates extensive review of relevant literature with interviews from world-renowned educational, business, and industrial experts on this crucial topic will be shared. Questions, experiences, and insights from audience members about 4IR technologies and how the COL may prepare its Member Nations and their Citizens for this revolution will be cordially encouraged during the presentation. The aim is to develop an informed, collective understanding of the benefits, challenges, and other issues arising from this critical discussion. The presenters will suggest potential projects on the use of 4IR technologies in education. In addition, participants will be asked to suggest two potential project and research ideas on the use of 4IR technologies for learning for sustainable development. If possible, participants will be asked to volunteer to participate in the two projects and the presenters will arrange to meet with the volunteers at the conference to develop a plan for the projects.
PREPARING STUDENT TEACHERS TO TEACH WITH TECHNOLOGY: CASE STUDIES IN FINLAND ...
This quantitative study examines the training of student teachers for ICT-based teaching in two teacher education institution, in Israel and Finland. The data was collected in 2015-2017 using a questionnaire administered to 41 Finnish and 44 Israeli student teachers. The results show that most student teachers had practice in ICT-based teaching. However, about a third of student teachers in both institutions practiced only two times or less using ICT. Those who practiced mostly used a teacher-centred approach as did their college and school mentor teachers who integrated ICT in their lessons. The variable describing competency in ICT-based teaching correlated with student teachers' attitudes, the number of ICT-based lessons they taught, modelling by the school mentor teacher, and the various schools’ infrastructures and support. The results show that students in Israeli institutions are better prepared to teach with ICT which can be explained by the impact of the latest national reforms. We conclude that students' perception of their TPACK is the function of a variety of factors: on a personal level (attitudes towards the contribution of ICT to teaching and learning); on an institutional level (curriculum, modelling by faculty, institutional strategies); on a field practice school level (modelling by school mentors, infrastructure, pedagogical, technological, and administrative support); and on a national level (reforms and their implementation models). All these factors must be considered to promote the pedagogically innovative integration of ICT in teacher training and the overall education system. The best strategy to achieve this goal is to support collaboration between TEIs and schools on the national level. Wide-scale implementation of ICT in teaching demands significant investments in infrastructure and training. Hence much of its success depends on the national vision and priorities given to this purpose.

This paper explores a sample of data collected from a UNICEF Eastern Caribbean rapid assessment on teaching and learning during the COVID-19 pandemic in eight countries. The primary investigation method was mixed and captured data from key participants/stakeholders in education using CAPI Technology and Video Conferencing tools. Statistical analyses and qualitative thematic analysis were conducted to report on findings using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences and Nvivo Qualitative Software. The data on online teaching and learning from Barbados was selected for further review and presented an opportunity to assess the Barbadian experience against other developing and developed countries. In assessing these perceptions in a sample of primary and secondary schools, stakeholders were generally dissatisfied with the online and blended learning modalities citing challenges relating to the equality and equity in access to devices and the enabling environment that facilities effective online teaching and learning.

STUDENTS E-READINESS IN INSTITUTIONS OF THE ROYAL COMMISSION IN JUBAIL
Information and communication technologies (ICTs) provide a rich integrated educational environment, which capable of changing the lives of students. The purpose of this research paper is to investigating ereadiness of the students in the affiliate Institutions of the Royal Commission in Jubail, and whether their experience in using ICTs influences their judgement towards ICTs, and whether their judgement and experience toward ICTs influence their use of ICTs or not. Survey methodology is facilitated through the use of the questionnaires. Survey domain is a random sampling of studentsin Institutions of the Royal Commission of Jubail. With a 95% confidence level of a possible sample frame of 669, the study sampled 1032 respondents (15%). Results showed that students’judgement towards ICTs is highly positive, which reflect their e-readiness and willingness to use ICTs, but the analysis showed that the experience with ICTs did not significantly predict students’judgement about ICTs use. It was discovered that the following set of ICTs requires the most attention in the future adoption planning by the Royal Commission for its three affiliate Higher education institutions (HEIs): “Blackboard”, “smart devices”, “e-bulletin boards”, and “e-materials”. This set of ICTs receives the least scores of use and experience responses from study participants.The result of this study provides valuable insights into students’ e-readiness. This information may be used to develop and support factors that enhance strategies for adopting ICTs by students.

Technology in the classroom can positively impact student learning and achievement in several ways:
- It allows students to learn in multiple styles like audio, visual and interactive ways. This engages more students and helps improve their learning.
- When used strategically, technology provides new learning experiences that require higher-level thinking like problem solving and reasoning. It also supports collaborative learning.
- Research shows students who use educational technology, like math software, often outperform peers on standardized tests, and test scores have been shown to improve with the integration of certain technologies into classrooms.

Group #2 discussed advancing mobile learning by addressing the urgency brought on by mobile technologies and the economic and cultural issues related to their use. They covered design challenges like cross-platform issues and screen size as well as health and safety concerns. On the policy side, they mentioned schools restricting mobile devices, bring-your-own policies, and ensuring educational use. Educator issues included preparing teachers for mobile learning, their experience with platforms, making connections to student preparation, needing training, and evaluating student achievement impacts.

We conclude that students' perception of their TPACK is the function of a variety of factors: on a personal level (attitudes towards the contribution of ICT to teaching and learning); on an institutional level (curriculum, modelling by faculty, institutional strategies); on a field practice school level (modelling by school mentors, infrastructure, pedagogical, technological, and administrative support); and on a national level (reforms and their implementation models). All these factors must be considered to promote the pedagogically innovative integration of ICT in teacher training and the overall education system. The best strategy to achieve this goal is to support collaboration between TEIs and schools on the national level. Wide-scale implementation of ICT in teaching demands significant investments in infrastructure and training. Hence much of its success depends on the national vision and priorities given to this purpose.

The primary investigation method was mixed and captured data from key participants/stakeholders in education using CAPI Technology and Video Conferencing tools. Statistical analyses and qualitative thematic analysis were conducted to report on findings using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences and Nvivo Qualitative Software. The data on online teaching and learning from Barbados was selected for further review and presented an opportunity to assess the Barbadian experience against other developing and developed countries. In assessing these perceptions in a sample of primary and secondary schools, stakeholders were generally dissatisfied with the online and blended learning modalities citing challenges relating to the equality and equity in access to devices and the enabling environment that facilities effective online teaching and learning.

Information and communication technologies (ICTs) provide a rich integrated educational environment, which capable of changing the lives of students. The purpose of this research paper is to investigating ereadiness of the students in the affiliate Institutions of the Royal Commission in Jubail, and whether their experience in using ICTs influences their judgement towards ICTs, and whether their judgement and experience toward ICTs influence their use of ICTs or not. Survey methodology is facilitated through the use of the questionnaires. Survey domain is a random sampling of studentsin Institutions of the Royal Commission of Jubail. With a 95% confidence level of a possible sample frame of 669, the study sampled 1032 respondents (15%). Results showed that students’judgement towards ICTs is highly positive, which reflect their e-readiness and willingness to use ICTs, but the analysis showed that the experience with ICTs did not significantly predict students’judgement about ICTs use. It was discovered that the following set of ICTs requires the most attention in the future adoption planning by the Royal Commission for its three affiliate Higher education institutions (HEIs): “Blackboard”, “smart devices”, “e-bulletin boards”, and “e-materials”. This set of ICTs receives the least scores of use and experience responses from study participants.The result of this study provides valuable insights into students’ e-readiness. This information may be used to develop and support factors that enhance strategies for adopting ICTs by students.

Measuring innovation in education and understanding how it works is essential to improve the quality of the education sector. Monitoring systematically how pedagogical practices evolve would considerably increase the international education knowledge base. We need to examine whether, and how, practices are changing within classrooms and educational organisations and how students use learning resources. We should know much more about how teachers change their professional development practices, how schools change their ways to relate to parents, and, more generally, to what extent change and innovation are linked to better educational outcomes. This would help policy makers to better target interventions and resources, and get quick feedback on whether reforms do change educational practices as expected. This would enable us to better understand the role of innovation in education.

Student teachers’ first reflections on information
Student teachers observed a variety of factors that influenced the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in schools during their placements. While welcoming ICT as a tool for modernizing teaching, students identified several hindering factors. These included a lack of resources and teacher skills/training, as well as difficulties integrating ICT into traditional curriculum settings. Students also felt ICT changed classroom relationships and the nature of learning and teaching. The article examines student teachers' perceptions of ICT in schools based on their reflections in an online forum.
