This presentation by Dr. Elizabeth Drescher, Director of the Center for Anglican Learning & Leadership and Assistant Professor of Christian Spiritualities at Church Divinity School of the Pacific, introduces changes in communication, community, and leadership influenced by new social media technologies. The presentation links current social media practices to long-held Christian traditions and provokes questions about how the Church can be proactively using social media for community-building, education, and formation.
"Web Ministry 3.0: A view of emerging tools and applications" looks at where the next iteration of the web ministry is headed. I highlight a number of emerging Web-based applications, their impact, the theological underpinnings, and how church communicators should use them effectively, if at all.

New social media is reshaping Christian practice. With more than 500 million users on Facebook alone, we cannot ignore the significance of this cultural and spiritual transformation. Extending the work of Marshall McLuhan and Walter Ong with the practice theory of Pierre Bourdieu, this paper will explore the ways Web 2.0 technologies integrate pre- and postmodern modes of communication and associated interaction in community. The paper will outline the implications of new social media for the practice of Christianity and suggest ways that leaders in ministry can productively engage these technologies and the communities they help to create and sustain.

This presentation was given by Sheila Webber at the Oeiras a Ler conference held at Oeiras Municipal Library, Portugal, on 20 May 2010 ( http://oeiras-a-ler.blogspot.com/search/label/Encontro%20Oeiras%20a%20Ler). I identify some of the different ways in which various groups of people experience information and information literacy (IL) in the 21st Century, with reference to 21st Century research. I go on to discuss some of the key aspects of IL that need more attention. I see these elements as evolutionary development of IL as a 21st Century concept, not as something completely new and different.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers.
