Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Essentials of Automations: Optimizing FME Workflows with ParametersSafe Software
Are you looking to streamline your workflows and boost your projects’ efficiency? Do you find yourself searching for ways to add flexibility and control over your FME workflows? If so, you’re in the right place.
Join us for an insightful dive into the world of FME parameters, a critical element in optimizing workflow efficiency. This webinar marks the beginning of our three-part “Essentials of Automation” series. This first webinar is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to utilize parameters effectively: enhancing the flexibility, maintainability, and user control of your FME projects.
Here’s what you’ll gain:
- Essentials of FME Parameters: Understand the pivotal role of parameters, including Reader/Writer, Transformer, User, and FME Flow categories. Discover how they are the key to unlocking automation and optimization within your workflows.
- Practical Applications in FME Form: Delve into key user parameter types including choice, connections, and file URLs. Allow users to control how a workflow runs, making your workflows more reusable. Learn to import values and deliver the best user experience for your workflows while enhancing accuracy.
- Optimization Strategies in FME Flow: Explore the creation and strategic deployment of parameters in FME Flow, including the use of deployment and geometry parameters, to maximize workflow efficiency.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
3. AIM
• The main Aim of this presentation is to make
familiar with the features of different brand of
the television and Home Theatre systems
4. Difference between Full HD and
HD Ready
• There are two main types of High Definition
Television; the HD Ready TV which delivers twice the
resolution of standard definition TV. It comes with
720 horizontal lines of information in every single
frame and great for watching HD television
broadcasts and the Full HD TV which delivers 1080
horizontal lines per frame. This brings you an
extreme level of real-life detail - perfect for watching
films on Blu-ray Disc.
5. X-Reality Pro
• The Brands with X-Reality Pro have dual core
processors.
• X reality pro is advantageous while watching
web videos which are usually of low
resolution. it will adjust the brightness, colour
and contrast to give you the best possible
clarity. also, all x reality pro sets have 3D
6. Motion Flow(Refresh Rate)
• All LCDs suffer from motion blur (ghost trails). This is
compensated for with faster refresh rates (a built in
aspect of the image processor which allows the
image to be drawn more often/faster as to reduce
the blur)
• Most of the Primitive televisions have refresh rate of
50/60 Hz.
• Latest Sony/Samsung Brands have refresh rates from
120 to higher which helps in reducing the Blur Effect
as discussed above.
7. Difference between LCD and LED
•
•
•
•
Technically speaking, an LED TV is also an LCD TV, as the screen on both is
a liquid crystal display. An LCD display has two layers of glass that are
polarized and joined together, the liquid crystals then pass or block the
light to display the television picture.
The crystals do not produce any light as the light comes from a series of
lamps at the back of the screen. On an LCD TV, the lamps at the back of
the screen are fluorescent lamps, whilst on an LED TV the lights at the
back of the screen are Light Emitting Diodes (LED).
LED TVs generally have better black levels and contrasts than their LCD
counterparts.
Color accuracy is also slightly better on an LED TV. While LCD TVs are no
slouch on color accuracy, compared to an LED TV, so LED has a slight
advantage.
