Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has said that the universities should be developed as the centre for
scholarly progress and research.
Addressing the 40th Convocation Ceremony of the Tribhuvan University (TU) today, PM
Koirala, who is also the Chancellor of the University, said that the universities should compete
with the renowned universities of the world.
He further pointed out the need of strictly implementing the TU calendar as the University is the
centre for producing the skilled human resources that is needed for the good governance in the
country.
While congratulating the newly graduated students conferred with various degrees on the
occasion, PM Koirala said that the knowledge and skills acquired at the universities should be
utilised for the welfare of people and the nation.
He said that the latest efforts made by the TU to timely revise its courses and programme was a
positive step and it should be made goal-oriented and fruitful.
He expressed his commitment to develop the TU as the central university and the centre for
imparting quality education in the days ahead.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Koirala honoured 7,938 students with different degrees.
Similarly, Prof Dr Chan–Gyu Lee of Changwon National University said that the TU has made
significant contribution to the development of education in the country.
Likewise, Minister for Education and Pro-Chancellor of the TU, Chitra Lekha Yadav said the
University should develop itself into a centre of excellence and scholarship by addressing
demands in the changed context.
TU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Hira Bahadur Maharjan, said that the TU has initiated semester
system from its central colleges from last year for the quality education.
The TU has already signed agreements with more than 150 universities and study centres across
the globe for educational exchange and for physical, academic and human resource cooperation,
added Maharjan.
