How a leading European operator is maximizing the value from its portfolio ...Infovista
Are you struggling with your 5G rollout? In this case study, we look at the real-world example of a tier 1 mobile operator that has confronted the challenges of rolling out its nationwide 5G network using innovative network testing solutions.
Rolling out its nationwide 5G network, this operator recognized that it needed to take an organization-wide view of how it deployed and optimized the network. Fundamentally, this boiled down to four core network testing challenges that needed to be addressed:
🔷How could they validate new 5G site and cluster performance before activation, so they could be confident that the network would deliver from day 1?
🔷How could they know how their 5G network compared to those of their competitors, so that they could improve the areas where they were weaker and communicate their competitive edge based on real-world insight and evidence?
🔷How could they not only identify, but also troubleshoot and resolve, network issues so the customer experience didn’t suffer and lead to increased subscriber churn?
🔷With all of this done, how could they get a true measure of the customer experience so they could be confident that the network is delivering on their 5G promise?

GPRS KPIs based on network performance Mehmet Beyaz
Today, many wireless operators are focused on providing mobile internet access. A large variety of technologies has contributed to the operators’ vision of true mobility and seamless roaming. The currently prevailing technology providing true mobile Internet access on a European scale is general packet radio service (GPRS).
Data mining techniques are used to analyze large datasets and discover hidden patterns. There are three main types of data mining techniques: supervised, unsupervised, and semi-supervised learning. Supervised learning uses labeled training data to learn relationships between inputs and outputs. Unsupervised learning looks for patterns in unlabeled data. Semi-supervised learning uses some labeled and mostly unlabeled data. The knowledge discovery in databases (KDD) process is a nine step method for applying data mining techniques which includes data selection, preprocessing, transformation, mining, and interpretation.
This document discusses how to calculate the mechanical advantage of a gear system. It provides an example gear system with an input gear of 18 teeth, an idler gear of 6 teeth, and an output gear of 24 teeth. It explains that the mechanical advantage is determined by the ratio of the number of teeth on the output gear to the input gear. For systems with more than two gears, the mechanical advantages of each two-gear combination are multiplied to find the overall mechanical advantage. In this example, the mechanical advantage of the overall system is calculated to be 4/3.
This document discusses comprehensive network optimization. Comprehensive optimization involves maximizing desired factors and minimizing undesired ones within constraints, with a large scope that covers more key performance indicators, alarm monitoring, parameter monitoring, and predictions. It emphasizes the need to correlate different data sources, like statistics, subscriber measurements, alarms, and parameter changes, to better measure customer experience and satisfaction. Achieving comprehensive optimization requires developing a database that can correlate this network and customer data using various tools to continuously monitor performance and identify potential problems.
Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

9. Benefits
Rapid return on investment can be achieved from the use of the TIPS:
Reduced capital expenditure on transmission network infrastructure through targeted build and better utilization of
network resources.
Reduced operational expenditure through efficient planning and engineering and increased workforce productivity.
Faster return on investment for new network build due to targeted network expansion to areas of high demand/revenue.
Faster deployment of new equipment leading to a more rapid increase in network coverage.
Faster provisioning with fewer errors and reduced risk of failure due to accurate network data.
In recent years the mobile and fix communications industry have seen exceptional growth with a massive increase in subscribers
and services point of view. New comers have continued to emerge, in what has become a highly competitive market, offering
consumers attractively priced voice services to encourage this trend. However, as the market has reached a level of maturity
for voice services, mobile operators have been forced to rethink their strategies.
They are now focused on retaining their existing customers and increasing average revenue per user (ARPU) by offering
the next generation of mobile data services. This has led the operators to center their strategies on the achievement of 3G
licenses, despite the high costs involved. For the operators successful in securing these licenses, the importance now is to
complete their 3G network rollout as quickly as possible enabling them to offer new innovative service portfolios. By achieving
this, they can begin to reduce their company debt burdens, which resulted from paying substantially more than planned for the
3G licenses, and maintain their position as market leaders.
TIPS (Transmission Inventory & Provisioning system) tool is a strategic solution focused on meeting the challenges facing
mobile operators who are offering high-speed data and interactive multimedia services over their mobile networks. This
intelligent inventory/configuration solution provides a consolidated cross-technology end-to-end view of transmission
network. TIPS collects all the inventory/configuration information automatically via SNMP, CORBA, TL1 Base and SQL-based.
With the aid of TIPS transmission operations & maintenance and planning engineers are able to vie current capacity and
paths of their transmission network.

10. CNDAPT Benefits
Update network picture
Comprehensive view of end-to-end traffic flows over every link enables network-wide congestion detection, capacity
planning and traffic analyses.
Fast and effective new network design.
Maximizes network availability and customer satisfaction by rapidly identifying and diagnosing.
Reduces total operating cost by improving productivity of both network resources and network engineering staff.
Validates desired network operation after maintenance activities, helping to avert router missing or wrong
configurations that cause one third of all network problems.
Reduces “finger-pointing” often associated with difficult-to-diagnose network problems, while minimizing demands on
scarce engineering resources.
Enables network engineers to predict routing problems and take action before they occur.
Verifies and alerts on changes to routing redundancy, preventing costly service outages.
On-line modeling using actual network topology and traffic loads helps avoid unnecessary link upgrades, maximizes asset
utilization and enables accurate network planning and optimization.
The CNDAPT is the most comprehensive, network dimensioning analysis and planning tool in the telecom market. The
Core Network Dimensioning Analysis and Planning Tool (CNDAPT) system, offers a complete solution for all stages of core
network design and analysis.
Managing a telecommunication network is a challenging and requiringes careful balance. Operators must continue to maximize
the network’s capacity and service revenues while minimizing network investments. They must also consider the increasing
economic and social forces pressuring for an improved grade of service (GOS). The CNDAPT helps you to produce the de-
sign and dimensioning of a circuit switched (CS) core network for GSM/VAS and UMTS including SS7/SIGTRAN. Design rules
like network Grade of Service (GoS) and minimizing infrastructure costs of the network are the constraints for CNDAPT.
Traffic, as it is applied to telecommunications, is an integral part of this balance. The network’s grade of service, quantity of
equipment, revenues and expenses are all dependent on traffic flow and its efficiency.
Network Modeling & Planning Tasks
Automatically generates latest network picture from network or any 3rd party PM tool as well as TTG’S NORTH-I PM tool
where all PM statistic and prediction module available on the CNDAPT. System also collects routing tables (with MML,TL1,
etc...), alternatives, load sharing, and etc... from the network daily or any given time.
Modeling of circuit switched core network topologies with all relevant nodes such as switches (MSCs, GW-MSCs), Point of
Interconnections (POI) to PSTN and other PLMN, Application Server, SMS, Voice Mail Centre etc.
Definition of subscriber traffic models for the different applications and network areas.
Modeling of source/sink traffic relations (traffic matrix) for all individual network nodes and supported applications;
these traffic relations can be derived from a running network or can before casted traffic.
Calculation of routing plans under different constraints, for example, in order to minimize connection costs for leased lines
and minimizing transit costs for calls to PSTN.
