• Choose the texts carefully
– Rich language
– Repetitive patterns (e.g. Boo…Boo…Boo!)
– A strong storyline
– High-quality illustrations
• Reread the big book several times
– Readers enjoy familiar stories.
– It may increase their control over the reading.
Teachers should…
1. Introduce (prior knowledge, read title & author)
2. Read (pointer/ruler, invite the students to join
reading)
3. Discuss (talk about the story and their reactions)
4. Reread (teach them letter-sound relationships)
5. Repeat (pupils take turns turning pages)
