1. We have taken inspiration from The Godfather for the mise en scene of our scene as
it shows off the class of the characters and it also sticks to the typical guidelines of
the noir genre. It also shows the audience what the films were like in the classic
period of noir films and this is what we are hoping to achieve. We also took the
vengeance and revenge theme from the Godfather and are hoping to place it within
our own opening. This allows us to convey as many aspects and themes of the
classic noir genre. As this is a fairly old-fashioned noir film, the gangsters are all
respectfully dressed and placed inside bars, docks and many out of the way places
back when it was filmed. This is similar to what we are going for as in our opening
we hope to portray many of the older, classic aspects of the noir genre.
We have looked at the superhero noir Kick Ass. This has shown
us that the gangsters and bad guys have changed throughout the
years as they are now dressed in trench coats, t shirts and
trainers and boots rather than the more older film The Godfather
wherein the gangsters are dressed in suits, long coats and don’t
always carry a weapon. This shows us how the portrait of
gangsters and bad guys within noir films has adapted to modern
society to keep the audience interested. As this has worked in
many of the modern noir films this does not apply to our opening
as we are aiming to make the opening sequence to a more classic
style of noir film.
These films are from the classic period of noir films
and they are what we are hoping to achieve with our
opening in the film. These films are not looked at as
much in our modern society and are not considered
to be a genre of their own but more of a mood and
theme within a film. This has degraded the image of
the noir film and made it more of a background
element within the film industry. This unfortunately
makes our job a little bit more difficult as we need to
make this mood the most obvious thing within the
sequence, as then the audience will recognise the
aspect of the noir film.
