FEE FOR BUSSING
SPRING 2013 SURVEY RESULTS
A Brief Recap
 Transportation Department report to the School
Board in October, 2012
 Purpose was to inform and educate
 School Board requested a survey of parents of
current students that are in walk zones
 Survey was conducted in the Spring of 2013
 937 parents were e-mailed the survey
 374 responded
The Survey Questions
 I have __ Children that are in a walk zone to school
 Options were 1,2,3 or More than 3
 My students are in __ Grade level
 Options were Half-Day K, Elementary and All-Day K, Middle
School, and High School
 I would pay a fee to have a bus stop for my children
 Options were Yes or No
 If yes, the maximum I would be willing to pay for this
service per year is:
 Options were No more than $100, $200, $300 or More than
$300
The Results
 374 Responses
 58.3% with High School students responded
 45.7% with Elementary students responded
 68.2% would not pay a fee for bus service
 62.8% of those willing to pay would not pay more
than $100
Comparison of Cost to Revenue
 $47,500 to add a route bus to the transportation
system
 $11,900 might be generated by Fees
 Charging $100 per student
 $35,600 would need to be provided by the District
 The alternative is to absorb the additional
passengers into the current routing system
 Elementary Route buses are currently at capacity
Considerations If We Move Forward
 Determine Fee and Payment Process
 Determine consideration for students who are
utilizing the Free or Reduced Meal Plan
 Determine the procedure for identifying students
who have paid the fee, and the repercussions for
families who try to access the bus that haven’t
 Re-route buses to service participating students
 Make every effort to not add route buses to system
 Monitor participation and public reaction

A Brief Recap  Transportation Department report to the School Board in October, 2012  Purpose was to inform and educate  School Board requested a survey of parents of current students that are in walk zones  Survey was conducted in the Spring of 2013  937 parents were e-mailed the survey  374 responded
  • 3. The Survey Questions  I have __ Children that are in a walk zone to school  Options were 1,2,3 or More than 3  My students are in __ Grade level  Options were Half-Day K, Elementary and All-Day K, Middle School, and High School  I would pay a fee to have a bus stop for my children  Options were Yes or No  If yes, the maximum I would be willing to pay for this service per year is:  Options were No more than $100, $200, $300 or More than $300
  • 4. The Results  374 Responses  58.3% with High School students responded  45.7% with Elementary students responded  68.2% would not pay a fee for bus service  62.8% of those willing to pay would not pay more than $100
  • 5. Comparison of Cost to Revenue  $47,500 to add a route bus to the transportation system  $11,900 might be generated by Fees  Charging $100 per student  $35,600 would need to be provided by the District  The alternative is to absorb the additional passengers into the current routing system  Elementary Route buses are currently at capacity
  • 6. Considerations If We Move Forward  Determine Fee and Payment Process  Determine consideration for students who are utilizing the Free or Reduced Meal Plan  Determine the procedure for identifying students who have paid the fee, and the repercussions for families who try to access the bus that haven’t  Re-route buses to service participating students  Make every effort to not add route buses to system  Monitor participation and public reaction
