breakdowns - Not safe as compared
to railways.
● Speed is slow and limited.
● Less organised- irregular- unreliable.
Rates are unstable and unequal.
● Leads to air pollution
● Carrying capacity is less
Railways
ADVANTAGES
● Facilitate long distance travel & transport
of bulky goods.
● Quick-speedy- regular -certain.
● Easy transportation of coal and raw
materials at cheaper rates.
● Mobility of labour and provides scope for
employment.

● Comfortable mode of travelling due to
availability of berths,washroom facilities-
overnight travel.
DISADVANTAGES
● Setting up requires Large capital
investment.
● Inflexible, route timings cannot be adjusted
as per individual preferences.
● Cannot provide door-to door services.
● Unsuitable and uneconomical.

Waterways

timely delivery.
● Can be used only in areas where there are
deep canals and rivers.
● Rivers and canals that are seasonal are
unsuitable for development of water
transport.
● Changing course of river may cause
dislocation,thereby making them un
reliable.
● Causes seasickness.
Airways

● It’s carrying capacity is small and is not
suitable for bulky goods.
● Determined by weather conditions, which
can be uncertain and unreliable.
● It involves high risk due to accidents and
breakdowns.
● Large amount of investment for the
