This about Transfiguration.
Jesus is both Man and God, Transfiguration is an important evidence of it. Jesus is Hypostatic Union, He is both Man and God. He is one of the person in Deity. It is an important evidence for people who say that Christ is less in Person due to some Heretical Influence, Everything is carefully dealed.

This Sunday\'s 2nd Lent A readings are attached prepared a la Bible Study by an exegete, Rev. Fr. Cielo R. Almazan, OFM - brought to you by AMBA & Big.
This series will explore Jesus' Last 100 days of earthly ministry, starting with the Transfiguration at the End of his Galilean ministry, through His Perean ministry, Jericho Road ministry and culminating in the week of His sufferings in Jerusalem. We will learn from His determination to pursue danger in order to fulfill the will of the Father and explore our calling to pursue God wherever.
In Matthew 16:19 and 18:18 we are told that whatever is bound in heaven, we can bind on earth and whatever is loosed in heaven, we can loose on earth. The Greek word translated "bind" also means knit, tie and wrap.
Jesus commented on the need for binding evil in Matt 12:29. Jesus explained that we must first bind the strongman before we can plunder his house. When we are facing an evil stronghold in life, we must first use our inherited authority as children of God to bind the evil forces involved. After that, we can loose, or call forth God's plans for restoration.
Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them" (Matt 18:18-20 NIV)
When we bind something, we declare it unlawful (or evil) based on God's word. Because we stand as co-heirs in Jesus Christ, we have his authority to execute this judgment on the forces of evil (Psalm 149:5-9).

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

2. Matthew 17:1-13
●
Mat 17:1 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John his brother, and bringeth
them up into a high mountain apart:
●
Mat 17:2 and he was transfigured before them; and his face did shine as the sun, and his garments
became white as the light.
●
Mat 17:3 And behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elijah talking with him.
●
Mat 17:4 And Peter answered, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, I will
make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.
●
Mat 17:5 While he was yet speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold, a voice
out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
●
Mat 17:6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.
●
Mat 17:7 And Jesus came and touched them and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
●
Mat 17:8 And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, save Jesus only.
●
Mat 17:9 And as they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, Tell the
vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen from the dead.
●
Mat 17:10 And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elijah must first come?
●
Mat 17:11 And he answered and said, Elijah indeed cometh, and shall restore all things:
●
Mat 17:12 but I say unto you, that Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but did unto him
whatsoever they would. Even so shall the Son of man also suffer of them.
●
Mat 17:13 Then understood the disciples that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.
3. Mark 9:2-13
●
Mar 9:2 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and bringeth them up
into a high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them;
●
Mar 9:3 and his garments became glistering, exceeding white, so as no fuller on earth can whiten
them.
●
Mar 9:4 And there appeared unto them Elijah with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.
●
Mar 9:5 And Peter answereth and saith to Jesus, Rabbi, it is good for us to be here: and let us make
three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.
●
Mar 9:6 For he knew not what to answer; for they became sore afraid.
●
Mar 9:7 And there came a cloud overshadowing them: and there came a voice out of the cloud, This is
my beloved Son: hear ye him.
●
Mar 9:8 And suddenly looking round about, they saw no one any more, save Jesus only with
themselves.
●
Mar 9:9 And as they were coming down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no
man what things they had seen, save when the Son of man should have risen again from the dead.
●
Mar 9:10 And they kept the saying, questioning among themselves what the rising again from the dead
should mean.
●
Mar 9:11 And they asked him, saying, How is it that the scribes say that Elijah must first come?
●
Mar 9:12 And he said unto them, Elijah indeed cometh first, and restoreth all things: and how is it
written of the Son of man, that he should suffer many things and be set at nought?
●
Mar 9:13 But I say unto you, that Elijah is come, and they have also done unto him whatsoever they
would, even as it is written of him.
4. 4
●
Luke 9:28 And it came to pass about eight days after these sayings, that he took with him Peter
and John and James, and went up into the mountain to pray.
●
Luke 9:29 And as he was praying, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment
became white and dazzling.
●
Luke 9:30 And behold, there talked with him two men, who were Moses and Elijah;
●
Luke 9:31 who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he was about to accomplish at
Jerusalem.
●
Luke 9:32 Now Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: but when they were
fully awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.
● Luke 9:33 And it came to pass, as they were parting from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is
good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one
for Elijah: not knowing what he said.
●
Luke 9:34 And while he said these things, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they
feared as they entered into the cloud.
●
Luke 9:35 And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my Son, my chosen: hear ye him.
●
Luke 9:36 And when the voice came, Jesus was found alone. And they held their peace, and told
no man in those days any of the things which they had seen.

7. 7
Jesus, Moses and Elijah
has much in common
What would they talk, When they meet a person after long time?
Moses could have talked about Promised Land, which he hasn’t been permitted to enter
Elijah could have enjoyed conversation about Jesus walk in Grassy Plains of Galilee,
in which he travelled Centuries back
If such conversation would have occurred, then it would be like
Jesus: Let me tell you about my Slow-to-Learn Disciples.
Moses: Let me tell you about the stubborn Israelites.
Elijah: That’s nothing! Let me tell you about Ahab and Jezebel.
But Nothing of that sort is being talked here.
8. 8
They were talking about Departure
Departure Exodus Exit
Moses
The point they are talking
about Departure, the
purpose of the law given by
Moses was to bring men to
Christ
Elijah
Elijah had been one of the
prophets laboring to prepare
people through whom the
messiah could come
This is like Exodus of Israelite from Egypt and now they are taking about Death of Jesus in Jerusalem
According to Prophets, when the Christ/ Messiah came, he was to to die for the people
Ultimate Sacrifice of Christ
9. 9
●
We noted that Jesus could have returned to Heaven exactly as
He was- but, If he had done so, He would have been the only
one in heaven who had inhabited human flesh.
●
He had to die before Moses could go to heaven.
●
He had to die before Elijah could go to heaven.
This discussion was therefore of the utmost interest to the two
Old Testament worthies.
●
The exchange was also important to the Lord. His disciples had
tried to discourage him from going to the cross.
●
Moses and Elijah no doubt encouraged him to let nothing deter
him from carrying through the God’s plan for man’s salvation.
Thus the transfiguration not only crowned the past, but it also
helped to prepare Jesus for the future-to the Crucifixion.
10. 10
●
Mark said that Peter did not know what to answer( 9:6)
●
Luke recorded that he did not realize what he was saying( 9:33).
●
Peter did not know what to say; and after he said it , he did not know what
he had said. Especially.
●
Peter did not know what he was saying when he put Moses and Elijah on a
par with the Lord: “ I will make three tabernacles...., one for you, and one for
Moses, and one for Elijah.”
Many today are making the same mistake.
●
In their minds, Jesus is just one among many great spirtual teachers and
leaders. They would be more than happy to build multiple tabernacles
honoring Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha and so on.
●
They need to hear God’s response to Peter’s suggestions: “While he was
still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of
the cloud said, “This is my Beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased, listen
to him””.
This phenomenon of the cloud always represented the presence of God.
11. 11
God’s words were Divine
“This is my Beloved Son”-> Divine Identification
“with whom I am well pleased”-> Divine Approval
“Listen to Him!”-> Divine Injunction
“Don’t listen to Moses; don’t give heed to Elijah; just hear Jesus”
“Don’t hear anyone else who claims to be God’s special spokesman”
Our Service to God at times involves the Heavenly Realm
12. 12
Application
●
The Old Covenant was soon to be dissolved and replaced with a new law.
●
We do not cease to exist when we die
●
We do not lose our identity upon death
●
Christ is the object of Worship
●
Christ is God’s spokesman today
●
