This document discusses the concept of transactions and digital footprints. It poses questions to help readers reflect on what transactions mean, how they engage in transactions, and what to remember when entering transactions. It defines a digital footprint as the trail of information someone leaves online through activities like social media use, online shopping, and app usage. Maintaining a digital footprint can impact one's online reputation and privacy. The document provides advice on being cautious about online sharing and creating strong passwords to stay secure during online transactions.
Within this module, you will learn about what a digital footprint is, and how this can impact your professional life. The second topic you will learn about digital overload, and how it can impact us at work. The third topic introduces how digital technologies can impact self esteem and potentially take a toll on our physical health. Finally, you will also be given some tips and methods that you can use to help ensure that you are able to switch off and rest better.
In today’s connected world it’s critical that our children understand how to be safe and responsible online.
To help you teach them the basics, the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI) designed this flashcard deck which covers the key principles of digital citizenship. Each card provides a simple definition and conversation-starter question to help your child learn and talk about digital citizenship.
After the conversation, we encourage you to visit www.aplatformforgood.org to learn more about everyday digital citizens using their power for good, and to find resources and tools to help everyone continue
building skills.
Analytics, Search, Social Media, and Optimization: Why Has Marketing Gotten S...Kate O'Neill
From search and social media to analytics and optimization, marketing has really gotten geeky. It's nearly impossible to keep up, so what should business owners know about online marketing in order to make good decisions about their web presence? This presentation is both a broad overview of key web marketing disciplines as well as a quick dive into some of the concepts and vocabulary behind them.
Presented on Wednesday, August 18th to the Women Business Owners Special Interest Group of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce.
This is the talk I gave at Goodwill's Summer Learning event in Atlanta, GA on August 10, 2010. It covers how to help your employees go online and socialize your brand, how to measure their efforts, and how to handle some archetypes of social media crises.

Marketing and promoting your business matter now more than ever in a world where customers educate themselves online first. You must be digitally visible. The challenge for many small businesses is finding the resources [including people] to market effectively while also running day-to-day operations. How then to prioritize what you do so you don’t neglect activities that connect with customers online and offline, while also delivering business results? The solution has to do with thinking about how you deliver value to customers, while creating content that addresses customers’ needs.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. Transacting
Questions to think about before we start this unit:
What does ‘transacting’ mean to you?
What do we engage in transactions for?
Who do we have transactions with?
What do we have to remember when we enter into transactions?
What do we mean when using the phrase ‘digital footprint’?
What do you think we’re going to cover in this unit?
What about you?
Do you online shop?
Why do you shop online?
What do you shop online for?
What are the benefits and drawbacks of
shopping online?
What makes a website secure?
How would you identify a secure website?
Do transactions always have to be about
goods and money?
Are there other things we exchange with
other people?
3. What about you?
How have you created your digital footprint? What have you done online?
What would you change about your behaviour online given what you know
now about digital footprints?
What is a digital footprint?
Whenever you use the internet, you leave behind a trail of information known
as your digital footprint. A digital footprint grows in many ways – for example,
posting on social media, subscribing to a newsletter, leaving an online review,
or shopping online.
Sometimes, it’s not always obvious that you are contributing to your digital
footprint. For example, websites can track your activity by installing cookies
on your device, and apps can collate your data without you knowing it. Once
you allow an organisation to access your information, they could sell or share
your data with third parties. Worse still, your personal information could be
compromised as part of a data breach.

4. Why do digital footprints matter?
•They are relatively permanent, and once the data is public – or even
semi-public, as may be the case with Facebook posts - the owner has
little control over how others will use it.
•A digital footprint can determine a person’s digital reputation, which
is now considered as important as their offline reputation.
•Employers can check their potential employees’ digital footprints,
particularly their social media, before making hiring decisions.
Colleges and universities can check their prospective students’
digital footprints before accepting them too.
•Words and photos which you post online can be misinterpreted or
altered, causing unintentional offence.
•Content intended for a private group can spread to a broader circle,
potentially damaging relationships and friendships.
•Cybercriminals can exploit your digital footprint – using it for
purposes such as phishing for account access or creating false
identities based on your data.

9. CAPTCHA: Telling Humans and
Computers Apart Automatically
A CAPTCHA is a program that protects
websites against bots by generating and
grading tests that humans can pass but
current computer programs cannot. For
example, humans can read distorted text as
the one shown below, but current computer
programs can’t.
Why might we use CAPTCHA? Why is
it important to tell the difference?
Watch the video:
What are the benefits of using reCAPTCHA?
Why was it created? What is a ‘bot’?
A bot is a software application that is programmed to do
certain tasks. Bots are automated, which means they run
according to their instructions without a human user
needing to manually start them up every time. Bots often
imitate or replace a human user's behaviour. Typically,
they do repetitive tasks, and they can do them much
faster than human users could.
