Name:________________________________ Trailer Analysis Template Film title: ___________________________________________ Duration: __________________________ Micro Features -Describe key features and explain what info this gives the audience: Macro Features - Explain what the micro elements suggest about: Mise en scene (e.g. setting, costume, performance, colour, lighting, etc.) from the trailer we can tell It was filmed in a rainforest with a native tribe of people. The film has very vivid colours and seems to be very bright. Genre The film is a thriller/horror film. This is shown by the eerie music and the screams from the characters Camerawork (e.g. shot types, angles, movement) Establishing shots and close ups are what is mostly used. At the start, long shots are used to show the viewer where it takes place, then after that mostly mid shorts and close ups are used to show emotion and more detail. Narrative (What events are shown? Are there any conflicts/oppositions? Do you get a sense of the full film’s beginning-middle-end?) The film starts with the characters in America, they travel to a rainforest and crash, they are then captured by a native tribe and tortured. Editing (Montage? Pace? Reaction shots? FX?) The trailer is mostly chronological but does contain a short montage towards the end. The transitions are fast due t it being a horror film, as fast transitions create suspense Representation (How are characters, places or events represented?) The tribe in this trailer are represented as being the bad guys, the are shown as being the “evil” characters. The main characters are represented as being helpless and weak Sound (e.g. music, dialogue, voice over, effects) The music at the beginning is pretty happy, as bad stuff starts to happen to the characters, the music gets more distant and then disappears completely Audience (Who is the target audience and how is this evident?) The target audience is adults, this is evident because the trailer explains that it s a horror and just because of the nature of the trailer including the music.
