South Africa has a diverse landscape and culture due to influences from indigenous groups like the Khoi and San as well as European and Asian immigrants. It has three capital cities - Cape Town is the legislative capital known for landmarks like Table Mountain; Bloemfontein is the judicial capital; and Pretoria is the executive capital with many jacaranda trees. South Africa has a dark history of apartheid racial segregation laws, but became a multi-racial democracy after Nelson Mandela was elected president following his imprisonment for fighting apartheid. The country is known for wildlife conservation in parks and being the first African host of the FIFA World Cup.
