13. • Tiger’s Nest is also knows as Taktsang Monastery is
one of Bhutan’s most recognized spot.
• The Tiger’s Nest Monastery is a sacred Buddhist site
located near Paro, Bhutan.
• It was constructed in 1692, around the cave where
Guru Rinpoche first meditated, the event that
introduced Buddhism into Bhutan.
• There is a legend that Guru Rinpoche was carried from
Tibet to this location on the back of a tigress, thus
giving it the name “Tiger’s Nest.”
• Now, this monastery consists of four temples with
residential accommodations for the monks

15. • Located 14km away from Paro, stand the ruins of
Drukgyel Dzong, built in the 17th century to cement
Bhutanese control over what was then the main route
to Tibet.
• Hence the name Druk Gyal “the fortress of
victory’ ,Bhutanese built it to commemorate their
victory over the Tibetan army in 1649.
• In 1951, Dzong was burnt. It is said to have been
caused by the fire when a butter lamp fell in the central
tower.
• Only the ruins of giant walls, charred gigantic wooden
posts, beams and watch towers can be seen.
