Tourism In Pakistan
Tourism in General
Tourism is the movement of individuals from one place to another, that are
geographically distant, for various purposes having a limited period.
• Either trans-national or domestic
• The World Tourism Organization defines tourists as people "traveling to and
staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive
year for leisure, business and other purposes".
Tourism: Origin and Evolution
• Tourism is a product of modern social arrangements, beginning in western Europe in the 17th century,
although it has antecedents in Classical antiquity.
• Earlier, travel outside a person's local area for leisure was largely confined to wealthy classes. (For example,
Roman Republic and Ancient China)
• Then by the Middle Ages, Christianity, Buddhism, and Islam had traditions of pilgrimage that motivated
even the lower classes to undertake distant journeys.
• Modern tourism can be traced to what was known as the Grand Tour, which was a traditional trip
of Europe
